It was just okay..

Yesterday I brought 3 of the kids to see Cirque De La Symphonie. Basically it was a symphony orchestra playing, and then people would come out and do some circus type tricks. There was juggling, a bit of magic, some aerial stunts..
It was okay..
Overall it's a great idea.. it's something that would entertain the kids, and there were tons and tons of kids there, so this sort of helped introduce kids to the symphony and some classical music.. nothing wrong with that.
Some parts were a little boring as they would feature the orchestra for a piece here and there, so no acrobats during those pieces...
String instruments put me to sleep... I mean they're good, and those people have incredible talent and I'm not trying to take away from the difficulty of what they do.. it's just me! Anytime I've listened to a symphony orchestra I've gotten very sleepy!
The acrobats and juggling etc were good and fun..
I think maybe it just wasn't what I was expecting... and I've seen that sort of thing before numerous times. We see jugglers and magicians at the library every couple of months. The aerial stunts were incredible.. but we've seen that recently as well at the Renaissance festival.
So maybe it's just me.. maybe I've just seen it all before so it's not so impressive anymore.. Though I still admire the people who do it and can see how incredibly difficult the stunts are, and they did it extremely well! They were very talented acrobats!
I'm still glad I went.. it was better than spending the afternoon at home doing nothing. The kids did seem to enjoy it (though like me they weren't enthusiastically impressed)..
We tried it.. now we know.. next year we probably won't go..

I hate not having something to do so I'm always looking for something new, interesting, and cheap!

I have seen these shows for kids (and grown ups) in squares and parks and the best I saw was once in the US. The reason it was good was that they chose classical pieces that were not so long and that everyone knew.

The pieces went perfectly with the performance, so that was great.. and they did quite a few that I knew.. they even did a Harry Potter one.

@marguicha Yep, they stuck with mostly popular things, like swan lake, and some comedic things too, to make it more fun for the kids.

When we are young things look so big to our small eyes. As we get older we kind of get that "huh, I actually liked this stuff?" kind of attitude. We are just too grown up. Sometimes I envy my husband because, in many ways, he is still a child at heart.

True.. things do look a lot different through the eyes of a child, and we often forget that as we get older.

Oh my gosh, we would love to go see such a show! But I can see how you may not be impressed if you saw similar stuff recently. As a skater, I love seeing programs that have music and choreography (whatever it may be) together - so it'd totally be up my alley!

Yeah it just wasn't really what I was expecting. It was still really neat. Look it up, because it's a travelling show and may be coming near you.

@katsmeow1213 Argh, looks like they won't be here for a while (thus far through August they won't be here anyway). I looked up past performances and it seems although they have been in CA, it was not quite close enough to us. I'm sure it was pretty cool!!!

It's good to do these things once. At least you can now say you've been.

Yes exactly.. it was enjoyable, just not as exciting as I thought it would be.

It was definitely interesting.. I think I was just expecting a bit more.. I was imagining something more like Cirque du Soleil.. it wasn't quite that big.. but still good!

That is how we felt when we took the kids to the circus a few years ago. When we were kids the circus was much more amazing than it is now. They have done away with a lot of things and it's not so great these days which is sad. It cost us a LOT of money and we weren't super impressed with it. We will never take them again.

I haven't been to an actual circus in years because I'm against using animals in the circus so I won't support a circus that uses animals. My kids do want to see the last Ringling Bros circus, and I know they usually come to town around April.. so I've been thinking I might look into going, but I know it will just break my heart to see the animals being used.

The circus that you mention does have former Olympic gymnasts working at their shows. I have never been to the Cirque De La Symphonie before though.

I am not surprised. The performers were very good, and the conductor at one point said the juggler was a 2 time world champion.
