Just wanted to share some seasonal cheer with you all. I have several Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera) plants in five different colours, I’ve had the oldest ones for many years and they flower reliably every year. Often though they flower in November and by Christmas all the flowers are over. This year has been different, we moved house in the summer and perhaps the slightly different conditions had an effect because all my old favourites started flowering at the start of December and have been covered in flowers ever since, there are still flowers now over two months later! It’s nice to have a bit of flowery cheer when it’s 0°C and actually snowing outside! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2017.

I had one in my kitchen window for many years that flowered reliably but rarely at Christmas. I really loved it. That was in Ohio. I was going to plant one outside here in Florida, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Come to think of it I don't see them growing anywhere outside so maybe it isn't done this far north in Florida.

Never thought about it before but you would have thought that somewhere like Florida would be warm enough, mine survived for years in our conservatory which was hovering around freezing in winter, and they seemed to thrive!

@Fleura Yes, for sure. Mine were in a window so it had to be cold in the winter when it was below zero outside the pane of glass. I should check on that.

@Fleura My house only has a few places for plants - not a lot of sunlight gets in due to porches overhangs..so one plant is all I can work with.

Thank you. I have red too, and pale pink, white and gold, several of each.

That is a great thing you have there. Nature is unpredictable and such things are sometimes welcome.

In my experience a lot of plants do better if they don't get fussed over too much!

They're quite popular house-plants over here, but they originate from the jungles of south America!

Those flowers are beautiful, I like the color. I have plants outside, but I do not keep plants inside the house.

What a beautiful color. I had pale pink years ago, but my green thumb killed them.

Once you find the right position for a plant it seems to make all the difference. What a lot of pleasure you would have had from these.
