So much for sleeping in this morning. At 5:30, when my missus didn't get up to let them out as she does during the week, Ginger and Ace came around to my side of the bed and woke me up. Wanting to let my missus get some much needed sleep, I dutiful rose and let them out. I also made myself a cup of coffee and logged in to check my notifications and read some of y'all's discussions. By the time the coffee was made, the dogs were ready to come back in and have breakfast. I fed them, and then sat down to the computer. It is now 7 a.m. and my missus has just come downstairs, happy that the dogs have been out and fed. I hope her gratitude will extend to making me breakfast. Do you have pets who don't understand weekends and won't let you sleep in on your days off?

My husband stayed at our son's place last week, and the dog loved it when he got up at 3:45 to get ready for work, because she got to go outside. I'm sure that over the weekend she will be wanting to go outside early too, but that is something that our son will have to deal with!

I'm sure your son will appreciate all the extra time getting up so early will afford him....NOT

@DWDavis Funny thing.....he texted me this morning, and said that Dad had his alarm set for this morning, so everybody got woke up early anyways! I just gently reminded him that we had to get up with him plenty of mornings over the years.

I close and lock my bedroom door at night, so the animals do not disturb me. Of course I have a bunch of kids who tend to wake up early even on the weekends, so the dog is usually let out even when I sleep in.

Our dogs sleep in the room with us. If we kept them outside the room, they'd whine and scratch at the bedroom door when it was time to go out. They are very persistent.

@katsmeow1213 Ginger used to sleep in our youngest son's room, before he went to school. Ace came to live with us after the boys were grown and gone.

I can't really claim any of that, I'm retired so I don't have a schedule to follow but I do get those occasional mornings around 3 or 4am when Ally sits by my bed and stares at me until I wake up. I don't know how she does it because she never makes a sound and I dutifully wake up. HA, I'm such a well trained 2legger So, did she make you a nice big breakfast?

Ally's thought waves disturb your sleep. She must have doggie telepathy.

No pets in this house, when we downsized our pets had passed on and we decided not to get more, we are retired and like to leave at the drop of a hat...Good for you for letting the misses sleep, My husband and I are both early risers, he heads for the gym and I read the paper in quiet.

My wife and I will always have a dog or two about. We pack them along when we go camping. Tiger, however, will be our last indoor cat.

@DWDavis My sister and I love to camp. Her dog went with us the first year, then the year of the Bears arrived. New York closed the dumps and went to land fill, and we didn't know it. The bears who ate in those dumps were all over the campgrounds and the dog went crazy, we phoned our father and had him come up and take the dog home. That was the only time we took a dog camping. Ginger and Ace are beautiful!

Dogs will be dogs, and cats will be cats. They're such creatures of habit. All my days are days off, but Orville the osprey likes to wake us up at 7:11AM sharp! Doodles entertains himself looking out the window, but will walk on me and meow if he's too hungry. Gotta love them. Your dogs are so cute!

Being awakened by an osprey would be such a cool thing. The hawk that lives in our woods is not a punctual bird. But we do hear him at times throughout the day.

@DWDavis I don't hear the redtail hawks we have in CT. They are quite silent and sneaky. Orville is the only osprey who chirps. All the others are silent. I wish I knew why.

Milking cows never understood weekends either and always had to be milked at around the same time whatever day it was.

My wife, who grew up on a dairy farm, reminds me of this often. Yes, I married the farmer's daughter.

@JudyEv I grew up in a Wilmington suburb just a few miles from Wrightsville Beach, NC. My wife grew up on a dairy farm in northeastern CT. Though we both went to public school, our school experiences couldn't have been more different.

@DWDavis And perhaps you have a similar story? Vince thought farmers' daughters were rich (or would be one day) and I thought anyone who worked in a bank must be wealthy. We were both pretty wrong but we've struggled through. :) We also differed in our schooling as Vince attended a Catholic school run by nuns and I went to the State school.

My kitty likes me to be up in the morning at a certain time, and I don't think he differentiates weekdays from weekends.

When my cat Joe was still with us, wake up time was whenever he started feeling hungry in the morning. It didn't matter what day of the week it was.

haha, those two are hardworking dogs! They should have overslept on weekends too. Maybe they forget about it. Perhaps you can train them to open the door and get out on their own.

@DWDavis haha, barking along with the neighborhood dogs sounds like hard work! Perhaps you can tell Trump to send all the noisy dogs to guard the border. That will save the work of erecting the wall.

They do work hard at patrolling the fence, chasing squirrels, and barking along with the neighborhood dogs.

Some mornings our dogs will wait until 6 or a little after, but they are so used to their routine. It always takes a while when the time changes to get them settled into their new times.

I am the dog person in the am - I get up at 5:30 or so every morning. And Ruby eats first then goes out. All days of the week are the same when you don't work.

I learned long ago to never expect to sleep in when there's a dog in the house.

Our cat stays in the heated garage and we can't hear him from the bedroom. In the summer though he jumps up on the deck railing and meows loudly into our open bedroom window. No sleeping in then! We can't leave his food in the garage for him as other cats come in his cat door! Last week he was waiting at the back door when I got up and another cat was curled up in his cozy bed under the heater. I need to find out if these other cats have home. My poor kitty seems so timid he gives up his bed!

We used to have several cats that would frequent our porch for a free meal, before SBC came here to live. He was a big, black, tom and he would not allow other cats to poach the food we left out on the front porch. Even though he's been gone a couple years now, the other cats still stay away. We do have opossums who visit once in a while, and the odd raccoon.

@DWDavis This cat was sort of a stray before he adopted us thoroughly. But he is not tough; he just lets other cats take everything.

That's Ginger, our Brittany, in front, followed closely by Ace, our mini-Schnauzer. We've had Ginger since she was a puppy. She's actually my youngest sons dog but he's away at college. Ace is a rescue we adopted two years ago. He's my little buddy.

I have two cats and even though they don't always come in to wake us up in the morning they make sure we get up. They will be running around the house chasing each other. Making lots of noise. We will get up and walk out of the bedroom and they both will be sitting there looking at us like "what? We weren't doing nothing." lol

I have a pet and children that don't understand that it is the weekend, my dog will jump on me and howl every morning at exactly 5:45 and when I get up to bring her out (I must go with her unfortunately or she'll run) I normally have 2 of my 6 kids up and about looking for food no matter what day it is. Oh well I guess it's nice to have a firm routine in place!

Now that our sons are grown, we don't have children to worry about in the morning, but the two dogs do a good job filling in for them.
