A thought occurred to me earlier, as I collected my change from the lady at the counter in the café at lunchtime:
What's the map on the back of the Euro coin going to look like if the UK does finally get its wish and exits the European Union?
The newer coin at the top of the picture shows more countries, as the European Union expanded over the years. The original coin, the one fondly showing wrinkly old man bits at the top-right (it's true, check it out!) is shown in the lower half of the picture, for comparison.
How will people react to the island of Ireland represented without the 6 counties that constitute Northern Ireland, the bit of the island that is part of the UK?

Maps or pictures on the currency won't affect its value, I suppose.

@pgntwo In that case nothing to worry about images on the currency.

@TiarasOceanView Don't believe all you read in the press... even less if you see it repeatedly.

I really don't think Ireland will change that much.. ultimately people will just want to get on with their lives, and much less the politics, I am however meeting up with others in my community to discuss BritExit and what it means to me..
I know my options, so am not hugely worried.

Well I was under the impression Irish citizens can take on dual citizenship if they applied. Being a British citizen in Ireland it doesn't change much for me, I have to pay healthcare regardless, as the Republic encourages everyone to get private health cares. The state care is pretty much not happening for anyone regardless of nationality

@Drosophila I know that anyone born in the six counties, or Northern Ireland, is entitled to hold both an Irish and a UK passport simultaneously. I am not sure if an Irish citizen is automatically granted the right to a UK passport, although holders of either passport can live and work in either the UK or Ireland, and were able to do so prior to the EEA/EU rights that permit nationals of any EU country to work in any other EU member state. I hope you get clear answers from your BritExit meeting!

I guess it depends if you have an Irish or a UK passport. Or if you live and pay taxes in the Republic or the North. The UK health service also seems to be under pressure to recoup costs of providing healthcare to people who do not hold a UK passport (not sure how that would affect an Irish passport holder in Northern Ireland., or UK passport holder in the Republic. ..)

@pgntwo bound to be just to condense it onto a coin - maybe they should scrap the map image for another design entirely for future euro coins

@arthurchappell There is a thought. Are you ready for the new British one and two pound coins, following the layout of the old thrupenny bit.

Well MR Camoron attempted to highlight how corrupt and inefficient Euroland is but he had it thrown back in his face. So it now is the time for us to withdraw from the circus and watch the ensuing fallout. First with France, the Netherlands, Italy and Germany with elections coming up this year. It will be interesting to see the outcome of these!
The whole concept is daft to link such diverse economies is unworkable. Look at the state of Greece although they had their bread butter and jam plus more jam and honey! They should never have been admitted to the EEC and neither should the other Eastern block countries whose economy with the exception of perhaps Poland and Latvia they are just as bad.
I had never notice the shrunken appendage as you pointed out. Does make me laugh at that. Seems like it is heading south like the rest of the EU!

The fallout is just beginning, you think? The European Free Trade Area was a concept started in 1959: Seven countries of the Organisation for European Economic Co-operation (OEEC), namely Austria, Denmark, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, decide to establish a European Free Trade Association (EFTA). Sad that the UK thinks it can cooperate better on its own...

@garymarsh6 The EU was about tearing down walls - this, as far as I can see, is about building new ones. We won't know what we had until it has gone, doubtless.

@pgntwo Well if we get out then I am sure they will still want to trade with us. They would be foolish not to. Cut off their noses to spite their faces!

Well, I only use Euros when I pop over the channel, so they can do what they like with the design. :)
