Day 164
Proverbs 17:25
Proverbs 17:25 A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.
It always seems that parents of children who refuse to follow the law, be obedient to all authority, and go their foolish ways, age quicker than those whose children bring them joy.
Noting how many foolish kings there were in Israel and Judah, and Solomon’s son being one of those foolish kings, I’m certain Solomon knew firsthand the grief he posed him as a father.
As parents, you have the obligation to teach your children right from wrong so they will not be a burden to you. However, no matter how much training you give them, children have their own personalities, and if their nature is disobedience, there isn’t much you can do other than pray they will see the error of their ways, and trust God to open their eyes before it is too late.
Solomon has a lot to say about discipline and teaching children right from wrong.
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. (KJV)
There is only so much you can do as parents. However, God can do more. Placing your children in God’s hands, is the best thing you can do.
One verse I have stood on regarding my children, is found in Acts. I know what it is like to have a child who does what he wants without regard for the law or anyone else. I know prayer changes things. Sometimes a child needs to get to the lowest possible place in their life before they start realizing there’s a better way.
Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. (KJV)
The most important words in that verse, are the last three, ‘and they house’. There is always hope for your children when you place them in God’s hands. It is important for you to believe and be saved. God wants your whole family saved.
When your children are disobedient, the only thing you can do is pray. You know that nothing else you’ve done worked. Give your children to God. It is the only thing you can do that will bear fruit.
Let’s pray: Father, I place my children in your hands. Help them see that your ways are the best ways. Guide them in the path they should go, so they will not be grievous to me and they will live happy and productive lives. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

Yes they do. It's best to focus on the joy they give us.
