You may or may not remember that last fall I posted about finding a bargain, a riding mower for $400. It needed one more repair and the seller would call us when finished. He never called. That was right here in town. Fast forward to last night. I found a wonderful mower on a Face Book Buy and Sell Group. It was about sixty miles away, but he said it ran good. Asking price was $350. We went to look at it. It had a bit of trouble starting. The guy went and replaced the ignition ring that was worn. It runs great. It is a Dixon Zero Turn Radius mower, if that means anything to you. We got it in the trailer, but had to drive slowly. While out and about we stopped at Wal Mart and got me some more soil for my container gardening and a tarp to put over the mower in the trailer as it is supposed to rain. We made it home before dark and dropped the trailer. The mower will stay there until we construct our own ramp and clear a place in the garage for it. Glad to have a tarp to protect it for now. It has been an interesting weekend.

A zero degree turning riding lawn mower is very expensive so it sounds like you got a really good deal!

I am glad you were able to get a mower for fifty dollars less than you would have spent had you gotten the mower the other man was selling.

@GardenGerty Then it's a very good thing you waited. Would you have had the means to properly store the other mower over winter at any rate?

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes, we have a 20 x25 foot shed or garage, whichever you choose to call it.

I never heard of that brand but that seems like a good price for a zero turn. Do you have a lot of land?

Four city lots. This is a big brand here. They are the blue ones that have no steering wheel but handles to turn with.

@AbbyGreenhill So did you have a tractor style mower? I wonder how this will work, we are not flat here.

@GardenGerty I know what zero turn is. We could never use one since we have hills on our property. We have 8 acres and more than half is hills.

I am very excited. We had talked about new mowers, but I wanted something we could pay cash for it.

@GardenGerty I've wondered about a riding mower for us but I don't think we have the place for it. Three acres but its hilly. And rocky. I did buy a walk behind weeder. Gas powered. Kind of hard to use but way better than attacking clumps by hand!!

@sallypup Well, from @AbbyGreenhill I see that if your land is really hilly this will not work.

I am glad that you have a tarp to protect the mower, at least until it will get its own place in the garage.

Yes, we stopped and bought one. We need to construct a ramp to get it off the trailer safely. The people we bought it from had a ramp.

@GardenGerty It is surely better to use a ramp, it's the only way to go.

It is so annoying when people never get back to you after saying they will. In this case it has turned out for the best which is good.

Yes. I could have used that mower last fall to prep the land and make sure all was tidy, but in the end this is better.
