The Repubic of Lithuania

Something I Read Today I always try to start my day with a cup of coffee, while reading something from one of my many books that I have collected over the years. I probably have enough books to at least, START, my own library. I live in the state of Virginia, USA now, and I was wondering what country in the world MIGHT be about the same size as Virginia. Many states in the USA are larger than many countries in Europe, for instance. Have you ever been to Lithuania? I have not. So, I discovered that The Republic of Lithuania today, is just slightly larger than Virginia. However, at one time in history, The Grand Duchy of Lithuania included Belarus, the Ukraine, parts of Poland and parts of Russia, making it, at that time, the largest country in Europe. I decided to learn a little MORE about Lithuania, a country in the northern part of Europe but the most southerly of the Baltic states, found between Poland and Latvia. The capital city is Vilnius. One thing I read, that I found rather interesting is that there are two hills in Lithuania: one hill is called the Hill of Witches, which has carvings of pagan gods and animals. The other hill is called the Hill of Crosses and on that hill are thousands of crosses, in many different shapes and sizes.

I knew that is was a part of Russia somehow but not exactly how because I watch the Ice Dancing in the Europeans and the Worlds Ice Skating. There were two great Ice Skating Dancers from there who always held my attention. As for the Country itself I had no idea that it was so far extended. Thank you for the information too.

It's always FUN to learn something new, I think. I read all the time and look for interesting facts. Jeopardy is my favorite show on TV, so I'm always gathering trivia.

@IreneVincent Ah, we have to lean and be open to learning new things even if we don“t care much for it.

@lovinangelsinstead21 Why don't you write a post about where you live in Los Arcos, Spain. I have been to Spain. We stayed in a hotel in Fuengirola on the coast of the Mediterranean. But, we also traveled to Seville for a day trip. What part of Spain is Los Arcos. I will look on a map and see if I can locate it.

I think that Lithuania is a little known country for many people. I think that we can learn a lot about different countries on myLot if we just share.

I didn't either. That's why I like to read history books and dig up all these little known facts.

Lithuania are our neighbors. It is a great country and we exist peacefully. There are some summer resorts and camps which are along the borders of Lithuania and Latvia.

Yes, I noticed that Lithuania bordered Latvia. The summer resorts sound great.
