You are right but a ship in some cases also sinks.

neither... the ship floats because of it's design. it designed to float. however, the needle sinks in the water because it is not designed to float in the water (it's not capable of displacing water tuhs it sinks... the shape has a big factor on the two, the boat is V-shape that's the reason why it floats.
