"Terror" telephone call?

United States

Like many of you, I get a lot of annoying scam and telemarketing phone calls. Ninety-nine percent of the time I check my caller ID before answering and I don't answer if I don't recognize the call. I figure if the call is legit and the person really wants to talk to me, they will leave a message. If not, I either ignore the call or check out the number on Google to see if I can identify the caller. This morning I got a call and checked it out on Google. This is what I found - caller type "unknown, rating "terror", "the call should not be answered." Yikes. Have any of you guys ever seen this regarding a telephone call you've gotten? I've seen recommendations for not calling the number back, it's a scam, telemarketer, etc., but this is the first time I've seen this "terror" message. It's a scary world we live in these days. Never saw that before, but since you don't answer those calls not much to worry about.

@LindaCPearson Last week we get getting calls from something like 8999....It kept up so I took a phone off the hook (we use landline) and hasn't happened since.

@AbbyGreenhill I mainly use my landline also. Taking the phone off the hook is a great idea.

I definitely will be even more careful from now on and hopefully these calls will be few and far between.

That would make my eyes open wide. Last year I came home from vacation to a threatening message from the "CRA" (Canada Revenue Agency). I was to call back immediately because of the taxes I owed..if I didn't rapid quickly I would be thrown in jail..... I've dealt with the CRA, I've owed them a large amount of money. That is not their method at all. They were anxious to work with me. They met with me....on my home turf.....were willing to accept post dated cheques for the amount due, spread over several months. Then they did not charge me interst for the period during which I was making payments. This is a scam....I can't believe how gullible people are thinking that they can send in iTunes gift cards to pay back taxes.

Some of the scams can be really threatening if you aren't "in the know" about these scams. I've had so many. I've gotten several from the supposed IRS. One I got a kick out of - after telling me I own money, am going to jail unless I call them right back, they'll have no choice but to arrest me, etc., and then ended the recording with "have a blessed day." I found that hysterical! The world is full of predators.

No but this morning I answered a call with a CT 203 code and they asked for Nicholas and when I said wrong number they went right into their pitch to have me donate. I think asking for someone else was part of their ploy.

@LindaCPearson I get most on my cell phone and I block the number but eventually they do call again with a new number.

I just got a call this morning. I don't answer either unless I know who it is and want to talk to them. This caller left a message about tracing someone. I better call them and let them know even if the person does not live here or I don't know them. Yes, ma'am, right away. Delete.

The really sad thing about these calls is that enough people must fall victim to them for the scammers to continue doing it.

@LindaCPearson That is a sad commentary on the state of today's world and unfortunately, it is probably pretty accurate. The calls are scary and I can see why people would believe it.

We get calls with unknown caller but I've never seen the word terror. I never answer those with no identity. Sounds scary.

I only use my telephone line for internet connection and always use my mobile phone to make calls. Due to getting fed up with junk calls I actually disconnected the telephone itself.

I think the same way. If I don't know the number I don't answe4r. If they need to speak to me they will leave a message. I have had it with ge4tting obscene and scary phone calls.

I have never seen terror, I have just seen the stay away from this caller. Geez, I wonder what the company actually does to get such a rating.
