I said in another discussion (someone elses) that being poor can cause stress and I receive a reply back that being poor is a choice that if you have a skill then you can make money by not working for someone else. Not so! if you have a trade and want to work for yourself you have to become certified if it is required for that trade, which cost money. Then you have to get a business license..... more money then you have to get your business insured........ even more money And you have to be sure to pay local, state and federal income taxes. And some have to be paid in advance. Also pay social security.

I agree that is isn't always easy to get out of the mire and become successful in a business. Dozens go broke trying to establish their own businesses.

Whoever chooses to be poor? Only Americans, I presume. The reality is that rich people get richer while the poor remains poor and not by choice but by design because of economic inequality. The wealth of the world is concentrated among the top 5% of the world population while the rest are either middle income or low income or poor. If the wealthy were to pool all their income together, they can feed the whole world many times over. But will they do that? I think not.

I am unaware of anyone that chooses to be poor and I live in the USA. I agree the reality is that the rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer....... the new president that was elected, that I did not vote for I feel wants our economy to be that way.

@dfollin No rich people want to change the status quo. They'd rather get rich at the expense of poor people.

What are they doing on here then? If they have done what they said they should need any extra money or have time to be on social media.

Your right!!!! Who knows why they are here. That is like the people in really expensive cars, nice houses and furniture in it, nice clothes and carrying a Michael Kor purse are getting assistance from the government and churches. In discount stores (Marshalls) an MK purse was $125!!!!!

@dfollin .....Pretty amazing. Most rich people are misers. Don't pay for anything they don't have to.

Some who say such things really don't know all that is required. Others have a small business and do not do what is required, so they are not paying the fees to be certified. Someone we knew was self-employed for his second job. He had a good trade making repairs. Requirements had to change and he was required to get workers comp. on himself. He stopped his 2nd job b/c he could not come up with the fees.

And you also have to be sure that the business isn't one which a lot of others are doing.
