what doris did

Um, please excuse my ignorance, but why have you parked your lorry there? I must admit that the blue police tape, fluttering in the breeze, is rather fetching, but I'm concerned as to just how you plan on getting in the cab and driving it away. You know, what with it being on its side in a ditch. There's a blue wheelie bin lying haphazardly in a field, and in the next field lies an uprooted tree, which must have had to travel to get there. For all her bluster and weather bombing, Doris left us quite unscathed. A wall came tumbling down onto two cars in my little town, and a rather big tree fell in a residential street nearby, but she allowed my {already damaged, really do need to get it fixed} guttering to stay in place and rattled my hanging basket, causing some faint crushing of flora. My wheelie bins were on their sides, but it's possible a friendly neighbour did this, simply so Doris couldn't. I have to be honest, I expected more damage. This is Flatland, with few trees and buildings to act as a buffer against the wind. But with my disappointment comes relief. I hate wind; the noise it makes, the creaks it causes, the way it tries to blow you off your feet as if you're nothing but a discarded sweet wrapper. Are cars supposed to have flames spurt out of their exhaust when they rev their engines? I only ask because I've just seen ChavBoy do it twice with his chavved up car. But back to the lovely Doris. Am I the only person who sees a lorry on its side and worries that it may have been passing a cyclist at the very moment the strongest of gusting wind blew it over? Nobody? Must just be my lorry phobia kicking in.

Mother Nature has quite a different idea of redecoration. I do hope nobody was injured, either within the lorry, or a cyclist or pedestrian.

@ScribbledAdNauseum We have as many Starbucks as we have Costas. Obviously Costa are far superior. *grin* I believe your portion sizes are huge compared to ours, but then so are your houses because your land is cheaper because you have so much of it! But yes, we have the history, even if much of it is violent and gruesome. :)

@Poppylicious I'll take your word on Starbucks Vs Costa. I haven't had a starbucks in quite a few years. I get my coffee at a gas station that is also a fast food restaurant. Sort of like 7/11's Ah, but we do have so much land we just don't treat it as well as you do. Thinking about the recent oil spill, a local coal ash spill, the Flint, Michigan water issues....

I think Scotland bore the brunt of Doris. A few tree branches in strange places is about the extent of her wrath to the South East of Manchester. Although Hugo the Dog did find it hard going up in the hills!!

@Poppylicious I just wish they'd give these storms more appropriate names. Doris sounds like someone your grandmother knows who comes round and regales you with tales of her prolapse rather than a maelstrom of extreme weather conditions.

It was quite bad round here, but mostly tree and lorry falling. Lots of lorries! And a double decker bus with passengers. Yikes! I'm just glad it's over.

not seen any major damage where I live though it was horrible to walk through - one lady was killed by falling debris in the UK though

Storms are getting stronger in our area. When the strong ones come, they do a lot of damage. Glad to know your house got just a slight damage.

I think our storms are probably feeble when compared to the ones you get!

No, a cyclist being underneath the lorry would not have occurred to me - That's your innate pessimism kicking in Part of our fence blew down and the back gate is damaged, but we got off lightly - I'm glad you did too.

@poppylicious Wind is indeed a rather unnerving phenomenon, especially when it escapes unexpectedly in public and causes a loud bang and people turn round and look at you ... oh I see, you meant weather wind. That's bad too.

Lolz. This reminds me of when I was about six and farted in assembly. Everybody thought it was the boy sitting next to me. Phew!
