Hello friends,
I would like to share my experience in online buying. A few books I bought have reached me on time and are fine.
About seven months back I ordered for a smart phone ($500+) and when I received the packet it contained a stone of the size of a mobile phone. I returned it, Luckily I had asked for cash on delivery. So I did not lose any money,
About two months back I ordered for a laptop cooler fan. It was priced Rs. 600. (roughly $10). When I received it did not work and I had to return it. The amount was credited to my account and I used that balance for buying some detergent and soaps.
I bought the same cooler fan for Rs.250 ($5) from a local shop and it i working very well for the last two months.
In my view it is not advisable to purchase online in India. I know online buying is very common in USA and Canada in view of the distance from residence to shops.
good day.

true we have to buy from reputed sellers only. Again to some extent luck also plays a role.

Online shopping is good only if we purchase from trustworthy sites like Amazon, Flipkart and the likes. Most online sites run on a marketplace model meaning goods are purchased from brands and kept at company warehouses and then sold away to customers. In that case we should opt for assurance from the seller .Only if a product is amazon assured or Flipkart assured has the quality checks been done well. In case of an inventory based model like if we purchase in -house fashion brands from Myntra such as Roadster and HRX we can be assured of genuine products since the ecommerce entity is in charge of keeping the inventory of goods. Personally speaking most of my online purchases have been helpful since they helped me save quite a lot of money. Amazon and the likes are pumping huge amount of money in ecommerce hence the best prices are got online. There have been some instances where the purchases have not been satisfactory and I returned the products and got full refund/replacement. Hope this helps :)
