The Chicago Cubs who enter the 2017 Major League Baseball season as the defending World Series champions will have left handed starting pitcher Jon Lester, 33, when the St. Louis Cardinals will host their National League Central Division rival on April 2, 2017. Lester is the best starting pitcher on the Cubs starting pitching staff and it is a smart decision to have him open the defense of the World Series title for the 2017 Major League Baseball season at Busch Stadium in St. Louis Missouri on prime time television. The Cubs ended their 108 year drought of heartbreak of not winning a World Series title by beating the Cleveland Indians in the 2016 World Series in seven games.

I like this choice. I wasn't entirely happy with Lester his first season with the Cubs but he was outstanding this past season.

They easily could have gone with Arietta. A toss up.
