Another ODD Museum

United States

I’ve been researching ODD Museums for a couple weeks now and I am finding out that there are MANY strange museums out there all over the USA. I’m just wondering if there are as many museums in other countries of the world. This is one I found yesterday. The Button Museum in Bishopville, South Carolina. There you will find the hearse and the coffin of a man who had proclaimed himself to be the button king. When he died, 600,000 buttons lined his hearse and decorated his coffin. They are on display at the Button Museum. Are there any ODD museums near where you live? I’m going to a museum tomorrow to see a lot of postcards and some historical artifacts on the history of Chesterfield County, Virginia. I expect to see a lot of memorabilia about the Civil War along with lots of post cards. The display opened yesterday and will be open until the end of August.

I am not sure that I would like to go to a museum to see a collection of buttons that decorated a coffin. I would have left them in the burial.

I know. That's what is so ODD about this museum. Are there any ODD museums near where you live in France?

@IreneVincent Serious museums are controlled by the state, but there is nothing in our laws forbidding to someone to create an odd museum, and there are many. For example, there is a museum of sewers and a museum of vampires in Paris.

@topffer Well, all right then. The USA isn't the only country to have ODD museums. Thanks for adding to the discussion.

I wonder how much 600,000 buttons weigh.

That is really odd. I don't think I've ever been or heard about odd museum. I've been to food museum, return to the past museum, toy museum, camera museum and even rice museum. I think they're pretty normal compared museum with coffin full of buttons.

I'm sure I will find more ODD museums as I continue my research. I enjoy reading about things like museums and so I will be sharing more later.
