Neighbors from hell

Since I couldn't find the discussion I was looking for, I'll start my own... I live in a row house with thin walls. When I first moved here 16 years ago, I had nice neighbors next to me and rarely heard anything from that side of the wall. But they wanted something on one floor, so ended up selling and moving away. They were replaced with a whole series of neighbors from hell, who were eventually replaced by a nice single lady. Then came the fire, her unit was damaged and repaired but during that time she moved in with her boyfriend and decided not to move back in when the repairs were completed. She rented it out to her sister and sister's hubby. They were nice enough but did tend to argue a lot, complete with slamming doors. When sister and hubby bought a house and moved out, the single lady moved back in with her boyfriend. Peace and quiet again (mostly). But they sold and moved out last May and a young couple moved in. They have loud discussions every other day, it seems. Except that their "day" is my night. (They both work the late shift somewhere.) The guy has a deep barrel voice that is hard to NOT hear, even when he's just speaking normally. Plus he seems incapable of closing a door, any door, without slamming it. And they took out the carpeting when they moved in so there isn't even that bit of sound dampening. One of them likes to skip, yes like a child, rather than walk. That's when they aren't out and out running back and forth. They were at it again last night, when I went to bed. And they don't just argue in one place. They move all over their house, sometimes going up the stairs, stomping all the way. I want to move but I'd hate to subject anyone else to this.

I'm afraid I'd be moving as they obviously make your life hell.

Well, I was seriously considering it but with my recent accident I'll have to wait and see.

Very frustrating. We moved, in large part to get away from very bad neighbours. I felt bad for the next people to move in there.

That's why I hate apartments. I live in a duplex now. The biilding is 104 years old. The fire wall does a great job of sound proofing.

This place is 102 but it's frame construction and no firewall, except in the attic, which doesn't help me any.

I would move all the larger furniture against that wall so some of the sound is absorbed by them. Then I might write an anonymous letter very tactfully spelling out your issues. Or move. Your move. Is it enough of a problem to affect your health? Is it something you might get used to? Can you try to go to bed earlier so you at least get some rest before they come come and start in?

I've talked to them. So has the woman on the other side of them. They obviously don't care. I do often nap during the day, though.

@BarBaraPrz .......Sad. Sometimes people don't realize how loud they are being.

Well, they've been here less than a year, but the way they argue, maybe they'll call it quits and leave. (I can only hope.)

I see only two solutions : you can murder them or buy an hearing protection. As a perfect crime is something difficult to succeed, I would go for earplugs, they always work.

Earplugs do nothing to stop the house from shaking when they slam the doors...

Yes. When I'm home alone all I want to hear is my radio.
