Tickle Tickle Tickle TIckle

No, I am not being tickled. Which is a good thing really, as I don't like being tickled. The "tickle" I am speaking of is in my sinuses. I woke up today with that annoying, nearly burning tickle sensation in the sinuses that are on the top of your mouth. Probably better said that they are in my nostrils? Either way, it was an annoying wake up. I got up, swished with salty water, brushed my teeth and drank some ice cold water. Then I made myself a cup of peppermint tea. I then sucked on a cough drop. I might have to repeat the process because I can feel that tickle again. Our regular waitress at a restaurant I frequent had a bit of a scratchy voice. I recomended peppermint tea and local sourced honey. She thanked me and said she'd be doing just that when she got home. Do you use peppermint tea to get rid of sinus, allergy or cold symptoms?

I am not fond of peppermint tea or any flavored tea. Ever try a neti pot? I have been using mine and love it.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I got mine at Walmart. It uses distilled or sterilized water. There are packets that came with the pot that you add to the water.

@ElusiveButterfly Oh okay. I am sure it works very well. The process just weirds me out a bit I guess.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I have only used it when I need it. Yes, it is a weird feeling. But, the end result is great. My sinuses feel so much better after flushing them out.

I have tried peppermint tea before. I think I will be sick today. Sore throat, cold symptoms, and sneezing. But I am in the office now, hope I get better. I hate being sick.

Oh I hope you do feel better soon! Hopefully the work day will go by quickly for you. There are other teas I've read are good for colds. I think Eucalyptus maybe?

I thought that was usually a sign of allergies? I hate being tickled and I hate getting a tickle in my sinuses!

I think it is allergies or sinuses, not sure which. We have had a bit of a "sprung" of "spring" here but mother nature hasn't decided just which season she wants yet.

@ScribbledAdNauseum ha ha that is the same kind of weather we keep having. I just wish the snow would go away for good.

@shaggin We only had the one snow storm. I wouldn't mind another, but at the same time I think I'd much rather have spring.

I've not tried peppermint tea but may the next time my sinuses act up. Goodness knows I'm about tired of the patent medicines.

I don't use the medicines unless absolutely necessary. Peppermint Tea has been my go to for awhile. That and just plenty of water.

I drink lots and lots of water. Usually my colds are short lived. Thus winter they are stubbornly hanging on.

Mine always come about in the summer. Imagine how I felt as a child, with summer colds. Not only because it meant no sick days (unless faked) from school, but because my birthday is also in the summer. I hope your recurring cold will subside soon.

I tend to just deal with it until it works it's way out of my system.. but I have a fairly good immune system and don't tend to get sick too often.. though when I do get sick it's almost always in my sinuses!

@ScribbledAdNauseum I definitely don't get allergies.. I do get yearly colds. Even when I wasn't working I got yearly colds. I'm surprised it hasn't gotten worse since I've been working..

@katsmeow1213 count yourself lucky that everyone seems to be washing their hands or your immune system is just that great.

I don't tend to get sick either. In fact, it wasn't until I started working grocery retail that I got sick on atleast an annual basis. Oh and these "allergies"? Yeah, it's a cold. I always HOPE it won't turn into a cold but it always does!

@ScribbledAdNauseum Well it would be if I was at home in Connecticut but here in Florida, it has been warm and my sinuses are acting up so this year, 4 seasons.

The tickle I feel now comes from the pollen allergy, peppermint tea does not help.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Rinsing the sinuses with saline helps and also cooking with turmeric, as it is a decongestant.

No but soon I hope to be able to harvest some fresh mint from the garden. Apple mint grows like a weed. I think I saw some greening yesterday.

Hope you'll be able to harvest it soon. I've never heard of Apple Mint. Does it have a bit of a tang to it?

@sallypup I don't sweeten peppermint tea. I do use honey sometimes, and that does sweeten it. I guess I should say I don't use sugar.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Frankly I can't tell apple mint from our other mint- chocolate. I believe spearmint is strongest tasting. I think adding sweetener to the tea enhances the taste but I no longer use sweeteners.

I love peppermint tea, and drink it even when I don't have a cold. I hope you feel better soon. Don't forget some chicken soup!

I had some Chicken Soup last night. It was delicious. I added lots of pepper into it. As for the "allergies" they turned into a cold. Peppermint tea is good for a variety of things, but I only tend to drink it when i feel a tickle.
