i'm sure i've mentioned them before, but lemme refresh a little bit..
there's a big going on about the amount of coyotes we have in town now.
this is not a displacement of habitat issue-regardless of what some of the clueless locals think, they are NOT indigenous to this area of RI.i'm on an island, too far from the mainland.
coyotes have only been here since they built the bridges, following deer over that run across at night.
anyway..
and i knew this was going to happen..
pets are disappearing everwhere-and they've been going back and forth what to do about it.some idiots don't even know what they're looking at..they just feed the "poor hungry doggy".it goes without saying keep your pet in and don't feed the coyote, but anyway..
today, animal control got a report-some one decided to take matters into their own hands and put out a steel jaw trap-hell illegal here-and now there is a coyote with a mangled leg they're trying to find, dragging the trap.
whoever that is that did that is gonna be in big trouble if they find them..a kid could have put their foot in it.
this city better do something, because chances are there's more people like that out there.

There is NO shortage of idiots out there. And If you are on a small island I think then they should catch and relocate the majority of those coyotes back to the mainland.. but where there are deer, there will probably always be predators. - which could be good or your island would be over run with deer. But the idiots.. we can't relocate them.. they are all around us!

i know they supposedly relocated one to exeter..but just one.
i think the tourists honestly take out more deer than the coyotes locally..somebody hit one in portsmouth not too long ago..

@scarlet_woman That's sad.. but Hitting them with cars means there are too many and then the coyotes should have plenty to eat.. (other than people dogs and cats) I am glad I am in the heart of the city and we don't see them here.. because with my 15 cats being indoor/outdoor I'm afraid that would be their fate... we do have some that show up in the next towns over from time to time. Even Bears and it's in still basically city. but they follow the water ways and small patches of woods.

How does the city plan to take care of this coyote problem? The trap should have been set up for the idiots.

they're trying to find the coyote presently.although i don't know how they can lose a limping animal leaving a blood trail.

@scarlet_woman hopefully, they find the animal and deal with it appropriately.

Coyotes have made their presence known all over the country now, it seems. LA, NYC and elsewhere.

Coyotes will search for food no matter where it takes them @scarlet_woman ; it's in their nature. That was definitely idiotic what that guy did. I have coyotes here in my wooded area all the time. As a matter of fact, a pack was just off the pasture by my woods last night.
