Making Yoghurt

Homemade yoghurt

After thinking about it for a long while, I decided to have a stab at making yoghurt. It wasn't as difficult as I thought and most of it happened while I was asleep! I wanted to reduce how much extra sugar I was eating, and making yoghurt seemed one way to work on it. I should have checked the milk before I used it as it was only 20% less sugar than commercial yoghurt. Still small steps and all that. I only had a small taste, before I put it in the fridge, but it seemed okay. I added some sliced banana and crushed blueberries. I shall be trying it, nicely chilled, tomorrow.

I make yogurt at home all the time because the ready made is too sweet and we like plain yogurt. It's so much better to make it at home and to add fresh fruits or berries just before serving.

@Ronrybs There is one thing that I cannot understand, our doctors and government say that we have to limit the sugar and fats intake, but they do nothing to impose to the big companies to stop adding sugar to ALL their products, they even add sugar to the ham now, this is ridiculous.

Yes, the shop bought stuff has too much sugar, so I have thrown in fruit.

@LadyDuck I have no problem with a sugar tax, but the main opponents are the industries who use tons of it, so messages that tell us to avoid sugar ring very hollow. Still, I am trying to reduce it for myself

The big taste in is tomorrow, but the little taste I had when it was still warm was good, so I think it will be okay

I like yoghurt, as said better for absorbing the nutrition. I buy it from supermark. But I agree that the self made yoghurt, and bread, etc. is good for weight control.

@Ronrybs Sure, I bought devices for making bread, yoghurt, juice, etc. but seldom use them, as the supermark is so convenient.

@zhuhuifen46 That is the problem, but you can't always be sure on what is being added

I used to make my own years ago and I loved it! I've been thinking about it again and I'd really love to try my hand at it again. I'm sure a lot has changed since I used to make my own. Good for you!

Most things seem to involve a lot of fiddling about, so it is encouraging to find something that is so easy!

Only had a small taste while it was still warm and it seemed okay, but I shall be trying it with the fruit mixed in, from the fridge later.

@TheInvisibleMan I only had a small taste and it was still warm, but it was okay. Since then I have added fruit, so it should be better

Yes sugar is so hard to get a lower number I know what you mean. I am constantly checking labels. Like you one way I do that is to make my own everything.

I thought yoghurt was a bit fiddly to make, but it is rather easy, most of it happens overnight while snoozing.

This is a good idea. My SIL often made her own yoghurt. I quite like it but I like adding something as well to cut the tartness a bit.
