Smog Checks

How often do you have to get a smog check? My husband is going on and on about how he doesn't need one now. I went to check and was surprised to see he doesn't have to get one until the car is six years old. It use to be sooner then it is now. It depends on where you live in this state. How much pollution is in the area and whether you buy new or used. There is a lot to factor in now including zip code. I was sure surprised.

Emission testing are made the first time 4 years after you bought your car, 3 years if it is a diesel car, after the first check you must do this every year.

@Fishmomma I do not know the reason, especially after all those scandals about emissions.

Here in California, the DMV informs when they require a smog check with registration renewal.

Some states don't have them at all. Its really surprising, as there are vehicles that really should have it done.

We dont have those here in Alabama but need them, some pick up trucks put of fumes so bad they choke me.
