Drunk in Public

It was February 27, 1973 when a local paper gave a spiel on local crimes. I'm not sure if it was crimes for the previous day, the previous week, or even the previous month. I doubt it was for the entirety of the year.
Either way, individual dates were not given. It makes me think that most likely the crimes were from the previous day.
One name in particular caught my attention. WFM JR (I abbreviated the name) was charged with drunken driving (exact words) and Public Drunkenness (again exact words).
WFM JR is my grandfather. Never met the man. He was 35 when he was charged with this. My dad was around 8 or 9. I don't think this was his first offense, or if it was, it certainly wasn't his last.
He would die a little over a decade later.

@Mike197602 I guess he needs to enjoy life while there is a chance considering the age.

The woman who would end up raising me met my grandfather in AA. Her family became close friends with my family. Her son became my godfather.

@katsmeow1213 Oh okay.
My childhood home life was weirdish too.
My mom and dad did live together and were okay together until I was probably about 14. THen things blew up and I ended up living with my grandparents. My parents were still together but not for long after that.

Interesting how things like that can happen. The woman who raised you wasn't your grandmother but did she marry or date your grandfather? Or had she just met him there?

@ScribbledAdNauseum After 25 years the criminal records are no more public here, because people have the right to their privacy and they should not pay all their life for something they did so long time ago.

was your grandfather able to control his drinking habit? has your father mention this to you?

My grandfather was a very abusive man. I never learned anything about my grandfather from my father. My mother was the one to tell me that he was an abusive man, and she told me that back when I was a child.
I don't think he ever controlled his drinking, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's what sent him to his grave.

Why were you looking at papers from the 70"s?

In Wyoming, they still print the public drunkenness arrests in the paper.

They might do here, I don't know. I don't read the paper.
The article I got this from wasn't just about drunk in public arrests. One guy was apprehended after stealing a memo pad that was 72 cents.
