This morning I got an e-mail from the band boosters with the basic weekly updates. This weekend is championships so of course the e-mail mostly had information about that.
They also have an end of season bowling party.
This year the bowling party is scheduled for the Friday of the week the kids are off school.
Normally when kids get a week of school, many families plan vacations.
We did. We won't be in town on that Friday, so my kids will have to miss the party. I know of a few other parents I'd spoken to who also had plans that week..
I responded to the e-mail asking if it had been a typo, as I didn't think anyone in their right mind would plan a party for a week when kids don't have school..
Sure enough it wasn't a typo, that is the day of the party.
I didn't respond again, but I am extremely disappointed my kids have to miss this activity because the coordinators couldn't plan better.

They don't even know yet. They're already not overly fond of the idea of a family vacation because they're teenagers and family stuff is boring! I don't want to tell them about the party because then they'll insist on not going on vacation, and I'll deal with teenager attitude for the next 2 weeks, and probably the majority of the vacation.

@katsmeow1213 You are SO right. I hope you can definitely keep that a secret. I remember how annoying I was as a teenager.

@AmbiePam They'll get the hand out tomorrow at practice so they may figure it out.. but I am hoping to let it just blow over and be forgotten. I'm sure we're not the only family who will have to miss it.

That is strange! Like you said, when kids get a week off of school, that's family time - that is strange that they didn't schedule such a party during a school week/weekend. They could have done that at anytime - anytime except during vacation! I am thinking many of the parents probably wouldn't be making it . . .hopefully they will reschedule!

The kids found out and my son was rather disappointed, but he wasn't overly upset as most of his friends won't be there either, they'll also all be on vacation.

@katsmeow1213 If most of the kids won't be at the party either, then those kids at the party will surely be disappointed too as it won't be much of a party. Hopefully they will have a re-party at another time!

That's a shame. I hope they learned their lesson. I hope your vacation went well.

@katsmeow1213 Oh, okay. I knew it was during Spring Break and thought it might be now. Our kids were on Spring Break last week.

@just4him They all go at different times, don't they? Ours starts Easter weekend, so we're leaving town on Easter.

That does seem very bad planning. What a shame so many kids will have to miss the party.

I am hoping that enough parents complain about it that they change the date. It's really sad that kids will have to miss out.
