Most of my life I have wondered "What the heck is normal?" I have lived all of this time and still don't know what it is or who is the judge of what is normal. It seems to me that normal, in most people's world is when everyone is doing the same thing in the same ay. What do you think? Abnormal is, I believe is when you go out and do things your own way. Am I wrong? I am of the belief that normal is kind of boring I mean, why would you want to be the same as everyone else. You are special. You need to be the unique you that you are. I would rather be grouped with the abnormal I think. Most of the really creative and free thinking people are typically in that group. I think it's a group you can be proud to be included in. Although it seems to me that the thin line that separates normal from abnormal is becoming more blurred these days. I am kidding, of course. I think normal and abnormal are ambiguous terms that are left up to the interpretation of each individual. I think all of us have a combination of the two. What do you think? PS: I am joking about normal and abnormal being able to be define. I truly believe that each of us are unique in our own special way. That being said - I think there is no such thing as normal.

Outside the main mental hospital of a big city in Italy there is this sign "Seen closely, nobody is normal". I think that this replies to your question.

I think it does. I really never have believed there is a checklist, so to speak, for being normal. Besides the view of most I have spoken to feel normal is pretty much the same as boring.

@HazySue Some great artists were not considered normal, but they did wonderful work of art. While many "normal" people have done nothing good during their entire life. I would not care to be normal, I prefer to live the way I like.

there is definitely things that are considered "the norm." however, the older i get, i find that going against the grain can be a good thing! for example, the norm is going to a 4 year college. however, nowadays, with the expensive cost of college, i think that doing something different is good! go to a tech school! wait a few years! etc. yeah, normal is overrated.

@HazySue Perhaps you are right. I've always been told one has to be a little crazy to teach middle school.

@DWDavis I know you are right. I just retired from teaching middle school (6th grade ancient history). If I wasn't crazy when I started I sure was when I retired.

I don't think doing things my own way is abnormal at all. It shows that I can think for myself compared to being sheep and following one by one/ Even my normal temperature isn't normal - its 96.7 every day.

@AbbyGreenhill I think that with many people they need to learn by experience not to lay down and let others walk all over them.

I think everyone is abnormal in their own little way. It's a good thing to be your own person.

Not really sure whether I am normal or not. If normal being define as the same as everybody else, then I am definitely abnormal. Doesn't bother me though

It is certainly hard to define 'normal'. Or else it has very wide parameters.

@HazySue That's probably as good a definition as any.

I think most people define normal as someone who always does the expected.
