Day 206 Proverbs 20:12 Proverbs 20:12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them. When it comes to our bodies, we tend to take things for granted. We expect that if we can see, that we will continue to do so. If we can hear, we will continue to do so. The same with all our senses. Solomon reminds us that God made our senses, our hearing, sight, touch, taste, smell. He made them and we should be thankful for them. You never know when you will lose your hearing or sight. What would you do? What would you do if you could not taste your food? What would you do if you could not feel your newborn grandchild? What would you do if all your senses were gone? How do you respond to people who have lost their hearing or sight? How do you respond to people who are paralyzed so they cannot feel the ground beneath their feet and need a wheelchair to get around? How do you respond to people who are incapable of helping themselves because they lost or never had the ability to do so? David said he was fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knows right well. 15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. God made you in the womb, and gave you your five senses. He did not give them to you to abuse – listen to music so loud you lose your hearing, take risks that could cause you to lose the use of your limbs, or use mind numbing-drugs that take all your senses away and could kill you. God gave you your senses to give him praise and to worship him. He gave you your sight so you could see the beauty of God’s creation. He gave you hearing so you could hear the birds singing, the water as it flows over the cliffs in beautiful waterfalls, or runs along the brooks and seems to babble as it does so. He gave you your voice so you could sing his praises and worship him. Everything about you is fearfully and wonderfully made, and that, as David said, my soul knows right well. Give God praise right now for the gifts of hearing and sight, and when you are out in God’s creation, take a moment to look around at the beauty of his creation and give him glory. Don’t take your senses for granted anymore, but praise him with them. To God be the glory! Let’s pray: Father, I have taken these precious gifts of hearing and sight for granted, expecting I will always have them. Help me remember that you gave me my senses and to give you praise for them every day. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 2 April 2017 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

I remember years ago when I attended a live concert, I foolishly stood too near the stage. After awhile, a certain artiste took the stage and the music became deafening. I stood there for at least ten minutes before good sense prevailed and I hurried for the exit . When I got home I couldn't hear anything and it wasn't until the following day that my hearing returned to normal. I learned my lesson - and I never allowed something like that to happen again.

I'm glad you learned your lesson. Being without your hearing is no fun.

A beautiful lesson. It is so true the sense are gifts. Sometimes when I am disappointed in life I remind myself that I can see, I can hear, I can walk , also I have a roof over my head and food to eat... which is more than some people have and to be thankful.

Yes it is. I am very thankful for the senses I have.
