Sunny Cycle Training

Horton Loop

This year I have been thinking of doing some cycle touring. For the last couple of months I have been gathering the necessary kit and having hours of fun plotting routes on maps and finding places that desperately need me visiting. The one thing I have been neglecting is actually improving my, rather low, fitness. A few miles of pedalling every now and again 'ain't gonna' cut it.' As today was gorgeous I set out for mix of road, cross country and quiet road. I didn't want to overdo it and covered nearly 14 miles, slightly less than a third of what I'd like to be covering, daily, on a tour. A little way to go, me thinks! This loop through Horton village, one time home of poet John Milton, was a favourite of mine and my usual route to Windsor. I shall be seeing a lot more of it, in future. The video is an edit of the quieter bits near Heathrow.
The quieter bits of today's sunny cycle ride, under the take off path of Heathrow.

Wow I got really caught up in that video! I wish it could have been much longer because I was really enjoying the ride! Thanks for taking us with you! I hope there will be more. Now I miss having a bike!

@Ronrybs I guess it could be boring to some people but I was riveted!

I didn't want to make it too long as I think unless you are pedalling these videos can be a biti boring

I think you are wise to work up to your total mile goal slowly. The video was cool, I got to see what you did

Only the quieter bits, an hour of rattling down the road would put anyone off!

@Ronrybs Oh dear, part of your ride gets quite loud, I take it?

@FayeHazel I pass under the Heathrow lanes, but having worked on airfields I am quite used to the sound

Thanks for the video, what a nice quiet area where to bike. I think that 14 miles would be enough for me, it's a long time that I do not ride a bike.

@Ronrybs It's not a "little" ride, but it's surely a beautiful ride.

I cut out most of the bits of jets climbing overhead, otherwise it is a fairly quiet little ride.

@LadyDuck If my plan comes together, it should be a little ride!

That sounds like fun. Also, I discovered that town of Yapon is actually a village named Yapton , near Chichester. Maybe you might cycle there one day and tell me all about where my ancestors came from

What a lovely track you followed. I felt like I was on the handle-bars!

@Ronrybs I thought it might have been on your helmet. I'm glad you looked right and left when you got to the road! Made me feel much safer!

I have the camera on the old cycling helmet, so the picture moves a lot. I think I knocked it on a branch as the it is somewhat tilted

@JudyEv When I am on a busy road, watching the video can make you dizzy as my head is forever spinning around!

14 miles is still a pretty good ride for so early in the season. Good luck with the training!

@teamfreak16 Save the old strength, as I'd like to get to town and try the new protected cycle way. I've haven't pedalled in London for about 4 years

Safe to say that today is bit of a rest day. No pedalling and not a great deal of walking!
