Favorite "Devil" Songs #8 - "Runnin' with the Devil"

Recently, @FourWalls did a music series counting down her favorite songs with "Angel" in the title. I figured the time was ripe to counter with the dark side! #8 in my Favorite "Devil" Songs series is a band making their first appearance in one of my music countdowns: "Runnin' with the Devil" by Van Halen. Led by brothers Eddie (guitar) and Alex (drums) Van Halen, Van Halen formed in 1972 in Pasadena, California. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's were one of the 80's' ultimate party bands: you could not go wrong putting on a Van Halen album during a bash back then. They are the 19th-highest-selling US band in history, and have sold more than 80 million records worldwide. Inspired by the Ohio Players' tune "Runnin' from the Devil," "Runnin' with the Devil" is from the band's 1978 diamond self-titled debut album. While it was a Dutch Top 10, the song was a bit of a disappointment closer to home, stalling at #84 on the Billboard Hot 100. Yet it was the perfect opener for an album that would become the blueprint for the hair metal movement of the 1980's. (Fun Fact: That noise at the beginning of the song, right before Michael Anthony's fat, heavy bass riff kicks in? That's not Eddie's guitar, rather, it's the slowed down horns from the band members' cars.) It's a fun one. Enjoy! (Info verified by Wikipedia)

I know, huh. What took so long for these guys to make an appearance? I've been doing these for a year now.

You know how I feel about Diamond Dave.... (see song below) Having said that, Eddie Van Halen is an incredibly innovative guitarist.

I always found Dave entertaining, despite the ego.

Only #84? I always thought it was a big hit, one of their best known song. I had this one on 45 as a kid.

Yep, only 84. And yet, you'd walk out disappointed if you saw them and they didn't do this.

I'd not heard this one before, I think. I see what you mean about the car horns, I wouldn't have recognised them if I'd not read this
