Thanks to the inspiration of @teamfreak16 after the dual series of his favorite male and female songwriters I'm counting down my favorites in three categories: country, rock, and teams. Here's the next team on the list. #6: Chris Difford & Glenn Tilbrook No surprise, is it? The brains behind the outstanding British band Squeeze would probably be on this list, just for "Tempted" and "Another Nail in My Heart." And, as I usually say when the subject of Squeeze comes up (even if it's someone talking about squeezing pimples!), I cannot for the life of me understand why these guys weren't huge in the States. But, they weren't. Oh, well. Great pop songs with wonderful lyrics with great word plays ("I fumble for the clock, alarmed by the seduction" from "Tempted"), Difford and Tilbrook wrote some of the absolutely greatest pop music of the 70s and 80s. Squeeze is still sporadically together, and Difford and Tilbrook have done material that wasn't released as "Squeeze." They are terrific, whether the masses in America realize it or not. Chris Difford & Glenn Tilbrook Difford: born Christopher Henry Difford, November 4, 1954, Greenwich, London, England Tilbrook: born Glenn Martin Tilbrook, August 31, 1957, Woolwich, London, England Best-known songs: "Tempted," "Hourglass," "Black Coffee in Bed;" "Pulling Mussels (From the Shell);" "Goodbye Girl." Oh, so many to choose from....how about this one:

A lot of people I knew only liked "Black Coffee in Bed" because of the sexy video. A shame.

Yet, Squeeze was big on alternative radio at least here in LA. Those are "hits" in my mind.
