I Am So UpSet

My grandson, just out of the blue, comes up and tells me he thinks he has strep again. I told him he needed his mom to take him to go get checked out and , if he does have it get some meds and get on them so he has some time for them to get into his system. So he will feel half way decent to go to school on Monday. He said 'no' that he had things he had to do today. Like what? He has to fix his cats a play area. That's more important than going to the doctor? Yes! I told him that was loser thinking. His first priority should be to get to feeling better so he can get to school. (He missed Tuesday and Friday last week. ) He said that what I said was a form of mental abuse. What? Saying his actions were loser thinking? He says that school is a priority to him. And that he wants to be a electronic engineer. I told him that if he tries to get a job as an engineer they are going to look at his past performance in school. Missing school every other day isn't going to be something that will help him get the job. So, I am pretty upset with him and his mom. His mom doesn't even try that hard to get him to go. Hope she can get him to go tomorrow. This is so bizarre.

How old is he? Cause they only look at high school, and college. Also, thats not good wording, although i bet you didnt mean it in a mental abuse way like he said.

He's in highschool. Is 14 this year. No, I didn't mean it that way. I said it once before. I thought it would make him think. Nothing seems to.

@celticeagle oh.. well if he doesnt go to school enough, the school will have to do something themselves. Its neglect on the parents part

@Courtlynn .....And that is what we tell him. It's not much fun at times dealing with a teen who has ODD.

He should definitely be going to the doctor. At least so he can get better. If school really was a priority, he wouldn't be missing so much school.

my youngest pulled those stunts so much and missed so much school, they were about to send me to jail once. but a therapist talked with him and explained that if i went to jail he would end up in a foster home, so he finally started going every day

I have gotten to the point some mornings when his mom has asked for my help, that I tell him that very same thing. Seems to work too.

I'm surprised he can think of anything besides his sore throat if he has strep throat.

You didn't tell us the age of your grandson. That would be relevant and helpful in knowing why his reactions are so bizarre.

I thought everyone knew by know. I post a lot about him. He's 14 and has ODD. Hard to deal with him at times. I reposted about talking to him again.

Maybe he isn't really that sick. If he has no serious symptoms or fever, maybe it's something that will pass through him without adding antibiotics into the mix. If he were seriously sick, I'd think he would not fight seeing the doc. I don't know him, you do, so I will support your thinking as your friend. I guess I don't want you to worry too much.

He has a bad cold. I am insisting he get back to school tomorrow. He's missed three days this week. He saw the doctor and the culture came back negative.

So sorry you have to go through this my friend. Believe me, I know how it always gets turned around on us. It is sick and bizarre. No two ways about it and we should not have to put up with it.

when he is in a good mood, might be time to look up what all he needs to have to get to there, so he can have goals he can focus on. It is a pretty poor choice though, feeling better needs to come first for sure

I try to think of such things when he is in a talking mood. He did come around as I stated in the next post.

I think he needs a doctor's note to show that he really does have strep and not faking it. I hope she gets him up and moving and doesn't buy into the I'm sick act one bit.

Kids don't understand the priorities. His mom should be the responsible adult.
