Disaster averted

Yesterday our lead teacher was taking a personal day. There was a substitute scheduled. The substitute called in sick. Then there was another aid who called in sick. That left LaNae and I doing the work of four people.
It turned out okay. AS had occupational therapy, and then left for a two hour counseling appointment. JW was covered in class by a para/aid. EH came in late. and left early for an appointment. I worked with AD, Sometimes he has a melt down if it is not the para he is familiar with. This kiddos hate change.
They got a sub who is an education student with a provisional teaching certificate while she is in school. I got to "teach" her what she needs to do because she does not know anything about special education.
Honestly, by the time she arrived, La Nae and I could have covered the entire rest of the day okay. However there are laws that say you have to get someone who is certified to "supervise" the para's when possible.
Disaster averted. EH and AD had especially good days and we are glad to be one day closer to the Easter break.

I know it's hard work and it's difficult with all the rules and regulations you have to follow. My dear friend, Melissa, returned to work today as a special education teacher. This has been her life's work but due to health problems she's had to leave her job a couple of times and now she's back. She loves the work even though she comes home completely wrung out.

Perfect description. I was just telling my daughter that I could stay home, and hurt, and my brain could turn to mush or I can work, and hurt, and do interesting things and help people. I choose, for now, to work. It feels better.

I am not even sure when we are leaving for Oklahoma, or when Samantha is leaving. One of the kids is very homesick. It is a lot of cooking and dishes. I am loving it. I am exhausted.

there are many times the paras and teachers aides know MUCH better than a sub what needs done, I hate being that sub, I'd rather let them lead and me assist!

Just from what I know of you here though, I know you would have some idea how to do some things. You have the maturity to figure out that things need to be done and in all fairness, at the end of the day, she was not needed for direct teaching, but was willing to put teaching materials away as I told her how.

@GardenGerty yeah, I know I COULD lead teach, I just don't like being put in that spot. Now put me in a class long enough to know the kids, the schedule, etc, and I would be less uncomfie with it

Sometimes that just happens that way. Glad you were able to work it out. I'm sure you are all looking forward to the Easter break.

Yes, things work out that way. There is a nasty stomach virus going around the school. Both adults and kids are being affected by it.

It's always a good thing when everything turns out well. Glad you had a good day despite not thinking so to begin with.

You have to think about things in a different way to be able to have class with them.

Glad all ended well, and you got help even if it wasn't needed.
With everyone calling out that sounded a lot like an average day at my job. lol

I periodically read what goes on at your job. At least in our job we look out for each other. I like the positive air here.

It was a curriculum that she was not familiar with about social skills. She did at least part of it with the students that she needed to. It must have been difficult as she is not really interested in special education.
