Sorry I've Been AWOL

This has been a crazy week.
On Monday, about 60 of our 200 7th graders went on a reward trip to Busch Gardens for a day. Nearly that many of the students who hadn't qualified for the reward trip skipped school. Of the 26 students in my homeroom, only 7 came to school. Needless to say, not much teaching got done.
Tuesday, most of the kids were back, but we had a Character Education movie scheduled. Watching "Freedom Writers" and then discussing it.
Wednesday we were finally back on a normal schedule, as were we today.
Tomorrow was supposed to be a holiday but now it is a make-up day for the days the ice in January kept us home.
In the meantime, I've been trying to write on my new story. You can read the rough draft of the first several scenes at riversailorliterary.com. The site is ad free.
How has your week gone so far?

@DWDavis I read a review last night comparing three different tax software programs. Just about all of them said preparing your taxes with them would take three hours or less. I think they must have meant after you have all your data in front of you and just have to enter it into the forms. They don't mention that unless you've stayed really organized all year it might take a few days to get all your data together.

I spent the whole week interviewing applicants to fill lifeguard positions at work. Mentally exhausting, but the week went by super quick. Other than getting a bunch of chores and errands done today, I have nothing else planned for the rest of the weekend, except to relax and enjoy the time off.

@moffittjc Both my sons trained as life guards and worked at summer camps in their turn. The younger one worked life guarding, sailing staff, and as a counselor. He misses being able to spend summers at camp.

@DWDavis It varies from year to year. Since I do have one year-round pool I manage, I try to keep on as many lifeguards as I can throughout the year, because hiring new ones or returning ones is such a pain in the butt. But the ones who aren't able to stay on year-round (like the ones who go to college out of state), I try to get a count of how many think they will return. This gives me an idea of what I'm up against during the hiring season. I had a lot of turnover last year (a lot of staff graduating from college), so I have to hire quite a bit this summer. But if I get a young enough crop of new hires, I will keep them with me for the next several years, which will help reduce my hiring load for the next couple of summers.

I agree. When events happen, they are usually negative.
