Ellen, the New Oprah?

So Ellen keeps coming up with new show ideas. Other than her daytime talk show she did a furniture design show, I think for HGTV. But it seemed to only last one season. Then she has Little Hot Shots hosted by Steve Harvey. This show is in its second season.
Last week she debuted a new show called Toy Box where people pitch their new toy ideas. The first judges are adult judges from Mattel. The next judges, if they make it through, are 4 children - two of which have appeared on Ellen's daytime show many times. Since there has only been one episode it will be some time before we see how well that show does. I don't think it will go very well from what I've seen so far.
Tonight yet another show debuts - First Dates. My problem here is that it is on a different channel airing at the same time as Toy Box. Um, why would a professional television executive do that?
She has done other things such as her own clothing line and home decor, now pet supplies, her own pet food line, and she had a recording label which appears to have failed because it hasn't been mentioned since she signed, um, 2 (?) young artists. I think it was called Eleven Eleven.
So, Ellen is branching out, which is great. But I am really stumped as to why two of her brand new shows would be up against each other on the t.v. schedule.

Maybe she had no choice until they see how the shows go - but I have no idea really. It seems odd for sure.

I like Ellen and it's good to see her branching out into other ventures aside from her talk show. I haven't watched her new shows, but I did know about her clothing line and pet supplies.

@dramagirl26 Doing a monthly magazine involves a heck of a lot of work. I don't think she'll go that route.

@patgalca I can see her helping other stars get their start. But as far as a magazine, I guess it's possible, yet I don't know if it's something I can picture Ellen doing.
