Day 219
Proverbs 20:27
Proverbs 20:27 The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.
Flashlights are useful when it comes to finding things in dark places. When the lights go out, you use them to make your way to the fuse box or electrical panel. When something is lost, flashlights light the way in dark places so you can find what you are looking for.
Solomon said our soul is God’s flashlight. With it, he can see everything about us.
Movies depict the departing soul as light, something you can see. It is how people watching the movie knows the person depicted is dead, they see the soul departing the body. In real life, we do not see the soul leave the body, but God does. He sees our souls. They are bright lights to him, more than our earthly shell that encases it.
Christians also have a candle of the Lord. It is his Word. With God’s Word, we can see the inward parts of God. We can see his heart, hear his thoughts, and know his will for our lives.
The psalmist declared God’s Word as a lamp to light our way.
Psalm 119:105 NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (KJV)
Likewise, Solomon also referred to the Law of Moses as a lamp.
Proverbs 6:23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: (KJV)
There is no reason you need to live in darkness when God’s light is all around us. God even sent his light into the world, to redeem the world back to himself.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light, which lights every man that comes into the world.
Jesus is the Light of the world, blotting out the darkness of sin, and showing us the path of righteousness, and the road to salvation.
Do you have that Light of God’s love shining in you?
Let’s pray: Father, let your Light shine in me so that I am no longer living in the darkness of this world, but your Light blots out all that is dark and ugly around me, and shines on your glory and majesty. Let the truth of your love and sacrifice for my sin, light up my life, so I will bring glory to you. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

@shantalclay That makes it worth the time it took me to write it. All my Bible studies are Holy Spirit inspired. I do not take the credit for them.
