Willie Nelson and "BioWillie"

United States

I came across some information this week about Willie Nelson, the singer, who was also famous for introducing “BioWillie”, his brand of a clean-burning fuel made from soybeans. Have you ever heard about this? Evidently, this happened in February of 2006 in San Diego, California when “BioWillie” went on sale at an alternative fuel station when Willie Nelson filled his tour bus from a pump “emblazoned” with a picture of Willie Nelson strumming a guitar. He said: “It is the future. Through biodiesel, we can reduce dependency on foreign oil and adopt an energy source that’s clean, renewable and helps family farmers find new uses for their products.” Three years before that happened, Nelson’s wife, Annie, bought a car in Hawaii, where they have a home. The biodiesel for her car was made from the grease collected from restaurants. Biodiesel is the USA’s fastest growing alternative fuel and the “BioWillie” brand, B20 is a blend of 80% petroleum diesel and 20% biodiesel made from soybean oil. Did you know about this?

I had never heard of BioWillie before but wow! I think that's brilliant!

It is a GREAT idea but it will take a lot of effort to make it work. The oil companies are too well established to feel threatened by it, I'm sure.

@IreneVincent At some point, some big changes are going to have to be made or it will be too late for our planet. I wish someone with authority and the push to get it done would start on something.

I'm going to do a little more research on this. I understand that this biodiesel is sold, not only in California, but also Texas, South Carolina, and Georgia. That was as of 2006. It might be available in other states by now.

I saw something on the Travel Channel about his bus and that it runs on "BioWillie."

Nope I didn't but this is interesting. At least they are trying to help the environment.

I knew about this but there is no way the oil companies will let it happen - not to any great extent anyway. At least, that's my thoughts on it.

I agree with you on that. The oil companies dominate and are too well established to feel threatened.

I was a little surprised that this biodiesel is also sold in Texas, a big oil state.
