Just a friendly little note to those who are still considering taking the test... AncestryDNA is now $79.99 and that price is only good until next Wednesday... It will then return to $99.99.
As an aside...
A relative of mine, who is doing their own research about a different part of the family, is looking into doing the DNA test finally.
We (several of us in the family) have wanted him to do it as he is the patriarch of the family. He knows that I have done one, and I have sent him my results to peruse over. He called me into the room just a little while ago and wanted me to look at all of these comparisons between one website...
It was familytreedna.com and I tried to tell him that it was a scam but you can't get a word in edgewise with him sometimes... So I simply made an excuse to leave the room and composed an email to him instead.
I'm not going to let him get scammed either way...
I am thinking I might have to go ahead and do the test at 23andMe as well so tha the can compare my results from ancestrydna to my results from 23andme and finally decide for himself which one to go for...
I also had to explain to him that no dna test is going to link you to an ancestor who has long since been deceased. Not without a dna sample from said ancestor, and even then it is very unlikely as dna residue will deteriorate over time.
Anyway... .

My Mumsy got her results back this week. I'm pleased to say that she is definitely my mum! I did send her a cheeky message through ancestry. Unfortunately she has Irish in hers too, so now I have no idea where the Irish DNA comes from. Still, I'm not too fussed ... Irish DNA can't be much different from British!

$80.00 is pretty darn cheap, considering... BUT I completely understand.. It took me awhile to decide to buy the test when I did.
