I watched this short clip a few times, trying to work out what was happening... Then I wondered why they needed a guy in a big weatherproof jacket (who is standing in a hole!) there at all, and then I watched it again just to read the captions. If this is the way things are headed, self-checkout tills in Sainsbury's are the thin edge of a very thick wedge...
These warehouse robots, slashed manpower, two-thirds. Tech China Haiku! Video by ??-?????? @ Miaopai

I was looking in awe, they are so perfect, I was expecting a crash, but nothing, of course, they do not text and drive.

@pgntwo Only if silly men program them to demonstrate road rage.

@LadyDuck Wait until there's a programmer robot too... Should we be worried?

They are very patient - I wonder if they demonstrate the equivalent of road rage ever?

Sainsbury's supermarket use predominantly orange bags - their logo is orange. All supermarkets with self service checkouts, which rarely save time, must be secretly training us to do what the guy in the hole is doing - sorting things and placing them neatly onto/into an orange receptacle... The Orange Order is a movement that traces its roots back to a Dutch Prince, William van Orinje, in the late 1600s. It's just too involved on so many different levels...

@pgntwo I see. It's one of those things you either understand or you don't. I've run into quite a few of those type things over the years, pgn. Thank you for giving me some background on your post.

@DaddyEvil You're welcome. Scary orange robots though, still.

I would have enjoyed that video more if one had malfunctioned and driven into one of the holes.

I watched closely for that too... I am sure there's one showing that on YouTubeâ„¢ somewhere.

@Asylum Only as clever as the programmer, so long as that was a human (ie, for now!)

Reminds me of the checkout at Aldi's Market.

@pgntwo It's hilarious how they reverse to insert a probe up their backsides to recharge. Amazing what those little orange men get up to on the dance floor.

First of all, this video is completely mesmerizing to me! I really love watching those little robots do their jobs. But when I saw how many jobs these little guys have taken over, I felt sorry for the families in need of money. I guess this is the way of the future and I love that robots can help us. But people still need jobs.

@CRK109 Can you imagine using a couple of those bots as roller-skates?

Ah, but cute does not always mean cuddly - you might appreciate this short clip from the animated film, Big Hero 6:

I'm not sure if this is disturbing or entertaining. Someone still needs to make sure the code us accurate.

A glitch in the code, mayhem would ensue, I suspect. The robots are heavy, some of the early ones that can lift up to a tonne, used in Amazon's Kiva warehouses, weighed in at 320lb!
