One-way street

Mylotters, before I moved to my apartment 2.5 years, there was one minor con against the many pros. And that was listening to the sound of one-way traffic coming off the highway and into Downtown on a one-way street. My apartment is a few seconds away from the exit ramp for my street, too. Mainly between 8-10 PM every night, I have to turn up my volume on my TV, because the sound of traffic drowns out the TV shows. Not too loud, mind you, just enough that it could be annoying. Over time, I had gotten used to it. Do you live in an one-way street or hear traffic where you live?

I can just imagine... maybe one reason we moved to the country! But now we have a very noisy sump pump that discharges right outside our bedroom window. Someone didn't do their homework when designing this house lol!

Ours is close to the house also - but by a guest room so not really annoying. You can get a plumber and have that changed if it really bothers you but it could be costly. We can't run ours further out since we have septic lines in the way.

Where I live, you don't hear the traffic. Where my Mother lives she is right on a main drag but she likes it. She seems to like the constant hum of traffic Kristen. But here in my apartment complex there are other noises to deal with. I might prefer the sound of traffic.

That's interesting Ocean. I agree with you. I prefer traffic over my neighbor having company over late at night.

Thank goodness we live in the country and most of the traffic on our road is from tractors!

@AbbyGreenhill Now that's real loud enough to give you a wake-up call.

Well now that's understandable.

I would really struggle with that. I'm very sensitive to noise.

I do struggle with it. Between that and my cat's meows and caterwauls, it gives me a headache.

My apartment fronts the street, so I hear traffic day and night.

Same here Valerie. Where's a sound barrier when you need them? *sigh*

There is some traffic in my neighborhood and some of my neighbors like to play their rap music loud during the evening on the weekends from time to time.

Oh I hate that George. I did hear my neighbor on the patio, whether they're down below or next door, talking and having a party. Especially after 10 PM. That was two years ago. Now it's not so bad.

@Deepizzaguy That's annoying George. I don't know what kind of music my neighbor plays.Sounds classical and in a broken record play. But the talking/laughing is louder than the music.

@KristenH For the record I cannot stand rap music like many of my classmates in the late 1970s hated disco music. The so called music lasts about one hour and then it gets turned off. Then on the holidays the preachers come to the corner section to preach some gospel.

Same here with my apartment. I'm glad I'm not alone in that department. We just have to deal with it and adjust accordingly.

No, I would go nuts dealing with what you do. I live off the main road and almost no traffic comes here except for people leaving and coming back home.

I do get nuts sometimes and wish my soundproof walls would block the sound of incoming traffic. Lucky you.

We are lucky that way living in the suburbs. We have a big main street here too and ramps heading onto bridges leading to the city side but right where we have our house we cannot hear a thing. In fact some days it is so quiet that if someone suddenly said boo I just might faint.

Yes twice a day, those going to work and those getting off work but if they would repair the holes in the pavement the noise would not be bad, but as it is the sound if loud. I need a privacy fence to bounce the noise back.

That sounds like a great idea. At least I'm not alone hearing passing traffic.

It is quiet on our street. No traffic at all.
