I Really Didn’t Want To Do It

I sat here looking out the window at the sunny day. I knew I had to do it but did not want to. The forecast called to rain this afternoon, again, and I knew this would be my only change. It has been raining so much we only have had one or two days at a time that was sunny. Oh, how I dreaded having to do it.
I pulled myself together and said, “It has to be done and done today. It cannot wait.” So I slipped on my shoes and gloves and hiked out to my storage shed. I unlocked the door and glared at the machine that glared back at me. “Thank goodness it’s battery powered,” I said as I rolled it out, open the lid and dropped the battery in. No yanking and pulling on a rope or fiddling to get the thing started. Just a flip of a button and away we go.
Yep, I gave my lawn it’s first mowing of the year. I really wanted to wait until we had several more sunny days in the forecast so the grass would be drier. But the grass had gotten too tall to wait any longer. I planned to use the grass catcher but the grass was still wet. So I just let the grass be thrown out the side.
Hopefully it will quit raining one of these days and we will have summertime.

Hubby said he was going to mow our lawn this morning
. Wow, only the first mowing of the year? I don't think I've ever seen anyone mow their lawns out in the rain before . . . but then again we don't get as much rain as you do (even with this years rain for us, we had breaks from it - it was a pretty ideal situation!). I would gladly give you our sunshine if I could

I didn't cut the grass in the rain but it was still wet when I cut it. However I have seen people cutting their grass in the rain before. It was the first time for me but one of my neighbors has cut his grass 3 or 4 times already this year. Even with all the rain we have been having he has been watering his lawn.
I'm sure (or at least hoping) by the time we get into summer we will have lots of sunshine.

@RichardMeister I know I've seen sprinklers going on in the rain out here at least when it all started . . . I'm sure people have kicked themselves for not shutting off their automatic sprinkler systems - all that unnecessary water usage.
Are there are a lot of weeds popping up into people's yards there? Because of all that rain here, weeds had/have been growing everywhere and fast.

@much2say Where I live the water comes from the parks private well so we do not pay for water. But I'm sure it's figured into the rent. A couple years ago the City of Spokane tried to raise the price of water. Someone almost got a thousand or more water bills shoved where the sun doesn't shine. It worked. The price of water was lowered.
I haven't noticed any more weeds than normal.

It was sunny this morning but now it has clouded up and looks like more rain.

Mowing grass when it is wet is never fun. It would be nice to hire a crew here, but that's not going to happen.

Hiring a crew would be ideal–but as you said, it'll never happen.
