How do you feel about your nipples?

I couldn't think abut anything to write about this morning, so I thought I'd write about my nipples. I just read a post by Jennifer (@LovingMyBabies) about getting a baby fed without tears, and that got me to thinking about my nipples. Mostly, I marvel at how useless they are. Guys, have you ever wondered what it would be like to breast feed a baby? I have. I love holding babies, and they seem to love being held by me, but if they start crying, and it's a hungry cry, I amuse myself by thinking that if I offered them a nipple, all they'd get would be a mouthful of hair. Here's the science part: Did you know that when we hug anyone we care for, our bodies are flooded with oxytocin, the so-called "cuddle hormone"? So when I'm carrying a baby around, and we're labeling stuff ("ball," "plant," "tree," "War and Peace," "nipple") both baby and I are getting rush of a healthy hormone. Oxytocin suppresses cortisol, a major stress hormone, and too much cortisol is bad for both our immune systems and our thinking. But I digress. In the mornings, as I stand there brushing my teeth, I see my useless nipples in the mirror. I sigh. And chuckle. Do you even know why men have nipples? I think I do, but I'll save that for another post. How often do you think about your nipples? Are they your friends?

I actually like mine too. But they're just...there. Useless! I don't want any part of me to be useless!

About as much use as teats on a bull, yes. And in answer to your title question: Caressingly.

Excellent! I just caressed my nipples in your honor. Let us declare this beautiful Saturday Nipple Caressing Day! Later, I will take my nipples out cycling. They won't do much, but they'll enjoy the fresh air.

@TheHorse Get your pet dinosaur ready, that reminds me of an old joke: Q: How do you find out if a girl is ticklish? A: Give her a test tickle.

@pgntwo I'd never heard that one. Sigh. I can think an old rancher up in Montana who might have told it, though.

I love their curiosity. They use us as a secure base, and then want to go investigate everything.

@thehorse Mine are lovely but they always take me by surprise when I see them, useless things that they are, but I'd look really stupid without them. I haven't yet gotten around to naming them.

@TheHorse So discriminatory that we are the only gender who get to walk down the street showing them without getting arrested.

Nipple Naming? I think this children's program from the days of BBC children's TV in B&W captured it to a tee:

Naming them! I hadn't thought of that! Mine are sensitive today, but only emotionally, as I chose to write about them.

Blame @LovingMyBabies! She got me thinking about babies and feeding and bottles and nipples this morning. I was going to do another post about my blasted snow peas!

@TheHorse So you continue to pick on your snow peas. Tell me, what does that say about you? Do you need a new therapist to talk to?

One of mine used to be pierced, otherwise, no, I don't think about them.

I'm thinking about getting an ear pierced. Musician and all that. But my nipples are out of bounds. So are my naughty bits.

@TheHorse - You might as well. I've got three in my left ear, and three holes in my right, but I haven't worn those for years.

@LovingMyBabies Are you trying to maintain your girlish figure? I used to have quite the figure and was even a stomach model for a photographer! Now I look more like Winnie the Pooh.

Judging by your discussion, you seem to think about your nipples more than I do about mine. Are they my friends? I do not know, it seems that men were more interested that I am to look down in that direction.

@TheHorse Men in France have the habit, most women sunbath in topless, I always did in France. French men are less harassing than Italian men, at most you receive a compliment and sometimes a flower, I miss those times.

I used to need to pay close attention to the nipples on the prop-shaft of my old LandRover, making sure they were regularly greased most liberally... you ignored them at the peril of wringing a hardy-spicer!

@TheHorse I doubt it, but I do make it a rule not to get on my back and check other men's nipples.

@pgntwo Understood. I'm not a "car guy," but remember getting a car "greased" from childhood days. I don't hear about it now.

I am so restraining myself right now...I know nipple talk! Okay I will share.... no I cant, well ........... One thing. I like my nipples Many years ago I had cancer and had to have a hysterectomy, well one thing no one talks about is the nipples afterward, They are less sensitive. I am serious it was the strangest thing to get used to, plus without the hormones you do go kind of crazy, but I got the pills and I am back I need more hugs!

But on to more serious/"academic" matters: I'm glad you beat the cancer. I have an ex- who I'm still really good friends with. She also had cancer and a hysterectomy. She sometimes comes over and we snuggle on my bed while she tells me her latest boyfriend woes. Her nipples were super-sensitive back in the day (when we dated). Is that too much disclosure? Anyway, we haven't "made whoopie" since she had her hysterectomy. We dated in the late '90s. Maybe I'll request some romance "in the name of research."
