Good Luck-Bad Luck-No Luck

After all my hard work in getting the house in 'order' for my sisters arrival this weekend, she didn't come. Why you ask? On Friday they were talking about the horrible storms that were coming on Saturday and because she is 2 hours away, she wasn't going to take the chance of the drive. Not to mention the fact that on Friday, it was 90 degrees (32 Celsius), so when I went to turn on the AC in the house because I was sweating my but off, the AC wasn't working. I called the repair guy and they said they couldn't come out until next week some time. Oh great!!! That's another reason my sister would not come because anything over 70 degrees (21 Celsius) is too hot for her. Saturday the outside temp was 90 with a heat index of 96 degrees and the inside temp was 85 degrees and all I could do was run the electric fans. I was miserable; the poor cats were miserable and at 10pm, the inside temp was still 80 degrees. Yeah, sleeping was a real joy; NOT!! This morning? It was 51 degrees (10.5 Celsius) outside but still 70 (21C) inside the house. Somebody please send me a lucky penny. I just can't wait to find out what the AC guy is going to charge me when he gets here. IF the outside unit has to be replaced, that will be roughly $3,000. Good luck, bad luck????? Nope; no luck.

Good luck! And I sorta heard (wasn't paying too much attention) that there's a tornado happening somewhere in Texas. I know it's a large state, so the tornado may or may not be near you. If it is, I hope you stay safe.

@nanette64 I'm glad you're safe. Keeping fingers and toes crossed you stay that way.

There were 5 deaths due to the 3 tornadoes that hit @BarBaraPrz . Fortunately they were just to the north east of me. I have been extremely lucky over several years here in Texas. The closest one to hit was just a little west of my location. I just hope time isn't running out in that regard.

Sorry to hear that things haven't been going so good for you lately. It never rains but it pours it seems. I hope it will be a much cheaper fix. Did you cat come back yet?

I just can't seem to win @Happy2BeMe at anything. Oh and the winner of the Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes that took place on Friday (my BD) wasn't me either. It was a gal in West Virginia. It figures. She came back briefly on Friday night at 11pm. I couldn't get her to come close enough for me to grab her. I don't know where she hid for those storms yesterday.

I am not too bad in the heat but not with the humidity. 90 and I am right out of my comfort zone! You sister is right though around 70 is comfortable. I do hope the repair man comes and is able to repair it cheaply and you do not have to replace it. Here is wishing you plenty of luck!

Yeah, the humidity makes you feel like you're wearing an Alaskan Parka in the desert @garymarsh6 . Thank you on the AC; me too.

Oh no! I hope it is something simple that does not cost so much. We have not hit 70 degrees in the daytime but once so far this year. I hope it cools off for you.

Me too @DianneN . If it's too costly, I'd hate to think I'd have to do him a 'favor'. Well maybe if I put on a sleeping mask it won't be so bad.

I don't think it will cost $3,000. This is quite abnormal.

Several years ago when my AC unit almost burned my house down, I had to replace both the interior and exterior units @shivamani10 and that's what it cost me back then.

@nanette64 Have you tried calling him to tell him about the situation?

I had a loose wire @1hopefulman that led to the outside unit that he reconnected. But still, when I turn on the unit, the fan will kick in multiple times before actually staying on, so that's not good. He charged me $70 for the service call but if the problem remains on the starting capability of the unit, it will have to be replaced.

@1hopefulman It did it only once while he was here so I don't know. It'll be my unfortunate 'luck' that it will go kapoot when the temps reach over 100 degrees here.

Wishing you good luck while sending you "a virtual lucky penny". WE had a new A/C last year and it was over $4,000.00

You ain't a kiddin' @AbbyGreenhill . I can't figure out why some 'older' folks wind up wearing a sweater in the summer. At 66, that sure ain't me.

I would hope that you won't have to replace the whole unit. We don't have an air conditioner and probably won't ever or at least not for a few years. WE do have an attic fan which mainly is run at night when the outside air is a bit cooler, and we also use several fans in various rooms which help some. When It's exceptionally hot I like having Outshine bars on hand to keep me cooler on the inside and those ones are healthy too. (I began this response shortly after liking the post and didn't realize I never finished it), lol. In case you wondered.

I would purchase temporarily, one good window A/C unit for the living or bedroom. It is a good thing to have as a backup and only costs about 100 bucks to have a service technician install it if you call some places like Amazon or Lowe's to get it installed. Just my 2 cents.

@nanette64, If only. I know. I am guilty of not being prepared for the Texas heat. We just recently bought a new window unit that has a 13.5 energy efficiency rating. I like the fact that it is so energy efficient that I only wish I bought 2 extra for storage in case.

@lookatdesktop I went to the Walmart site and they had several GE and Frigidaire brands for $119 with free shipping that were 5,000BTU's.

There is an air conditioner but it does not see the light of day in the sense that we cannot put it on because of the high cost of using it. However you need that Air Conditioning I know because when it gets up to 40 degrees here which it does easily in the Summer we should have air conditioning but we manage without somehow. So hope he does turn up and repair it and gives you some good news.

I wouldn't like your weather at all, and thank goodness we don't have to worry about the costs of air conditioning. I hope yours doesn't need replacing.
