This weekend, I went with my granddaughter to visit another college ... California State University at Fullerton. It is a lovely campus, with palm trees and flowering gardens. This weekend it was especially fun because they were holding their own version of ComicCom on the campus. Everywhere we walked, there were people dressed up as comic book characters. The picture above shows a few of the students walking across campus in their costumes. Our granddaughter like the educational programs at Cal-State Fullerton, but I suspect she also thought it could be a fun place to go to school. I had never gone to a ComicCon before. Have you?

@JudyEv - Yes, some of the costumes were pretty amazing. The potential students on the tour wanted to linger at the ComicCom convention area, too. I think it was a big selling point for the school.

I've never heard of them, but I don't really know anyone in full time education so I don't know if they happen here.

@jaboUK - ComicCon just means a comic book convention and, usually, they take place at convention halls, not colleges. The fact that they happened to be doing one while we were visiting a college was a plus for the college. Our granddaughter was thrilled, and so were the other students who were visiting.

@DeborahDiane I've attended events like these to take photos and check out the merchandise for sale. I've never gone in costume myself. It is a lot of fun and the work that people put into their costumes is just impressive.

@allen0187 - The costumes in the photo above were very simple. Some of the people looked like statues, they were so completely transformed. It was pretty amazing.

I have not ever been to one but my son has been to a few. Here in the West and NE also. He liked it well but he is a big comic fan.

Has she decided on what she is going to take. That does sound like a fun college to go to.

@jstory07 - She wants to be a math teacher. The University of California in Irvine, which we visited a week ago, has a great program for it, but they only accept about 8% of the students who apply, so she needs a backup plan, even though she is a good student. The college we visited this weekend, Cal State Fullerton, also has a good program for math teachers, and she shouldn't have any trouble getting into that one. It's her "safety" school. We will probably look at one or two others in the county, too.

@JamesHxstatic - It made me wonder how much it cost for some of those kids to put together the most incredible costumes.

@JamesHxstatic - They go to a lot of work to create those costumes, don't they? Some of them looked like statues or movie props! LOL

I know about the main ComicCon (San Diego, I think?) but how fun to go to the any comic book convention! We don't go to them often, but I have friends who go to them and I see their photos on Facebook with many of the characters they meet there.

No, I'm so NOT into comic books and that sort of thing, but it shows that a good time can be had on that campus.

@DeborahDiane There is nothing wrong with having fun at college. Our older son partied away for four years at Cornell and still managed to graduate with top honors and awards. I'm sure your granddaughter will, too!

I've never been to ComicCon but I have been to a Star Trek convention and I loved it! I didn't dress up but there were some people who looked amazing! I was there to meet some members of the original cast and was thrilled to meet George Takei

@CRK109 - I was actually at a Star Trek convention once, by accident. My husband and I were visiting one of our daughters and there was a Star Trek convention going on at our hotel. Two of the conventioneers even got married in the hotel atrium, wearing their Star Trek invitation. It was fun to see all the costumes.

Cal State Fullerton looked like a very nice college. There is a good chance that it is the college which my granddaughter will attend.

@msiduri - We saw the arboretum when we visited, but we didn't stroll through it. I have heard good things about it. Our granddaughter wants to be a math teacher. She will probably live at home with our daughter, who lives in Irvine. Our daughter is a special education teacher, so she cannot afford to pay for her daughter to stay in a dorm. Our granddaughter is looking at colleges within driving distance.

@DeborahDiane Good for her. Wish her well. Of course, it looked very different in the hoary days when I attended it. It still has the arboretum, though, next to the student dorms (which did not exist when I went there). It's a nice place to stroll or study. Admission is by donation. What does you granddaughter plan to study?

Not a big one like San Diego. A small one in New Orleans and monthly one in LA.
