Vacationing on a sailboat: Would you enjoy this?

Sailing is not for everyone, but those who do like it might feel ready to sail away and enjoy a few days on a sailboat. The photo of the sailboat and boathouse shared here was taken by me in St. Augustine, which is the oldest city in the United States. If you have vacationed on a sailboat or another type of boat (not a cruise) did you enjoy it, or feel a bit cramped? The sailboat here is not terribly small and has everything needed to enjoy a few days vacation on the water. The video is by Simon and Garfunkel and really makes me feel ready to sail away!
I'd rather be a sparrow than a snail. Yes I would, If I could, I surely would. I'd rather be a hammer than a nail. Yes I would, If I only could, I surely wou...

@PatZAnthony yesss. I went on two boat rides, one for a 3rd grade trip and one for a 8th grade trip, and was sick both times. Although the first time was worse. I like being on land and having my feet on the ground. Lol

I love this song and them! I had never sailed Pat, but would love to. Although I had gotten sea sick, this was a long ferry crossing over a very rough sea, but I feel I may be okay on a sailboat. I would not feel cramped I don't think as long as I could be on deck sometimes. Have you sailed Pat?

@TiarasOceanView Yes, we have experience. A houseboat is a better choice for some.

Yes, I have sailed @TiarasOceanView It really is not for everyone, but if a person can handle the rough waters, it can be great fun.

I went once for almost 2 weeks in my best friend“s boat. I enjoyed it very much in spite of the lack of some things.

Many things would be missing on a sailboat @marguicha but some just don't mind that.

That photo looks like you took it from the top of the lighthouse! Is that where you were when you took the photo? I am a huge fan of sailboats, and have spent many days and nights on the water sailing the coastline of Florida. My girlfriend is a great sailor, and so she's been teaching me everything there is to know about sailing. I could totally see myself taking a nice long vacation in the sailboat!

The lighthouse was the perfect spot for that photo. Almost everything we were involved in could be viewed in just a few minutes @moffittjc

@PatZAnthony The St. Augustine lighthouse is one of my favorite places to visit. I just bought a lighthouse museum membership, so I can visit for free as often as I like!

We hired a houseboat once or twice and shared with others. It was a bit cramped but we managed okay. And in Ireland we hired a canal boat. We haven't tried a sailboat though.

Houseboats are great fun. We thought of purchasing one as a residence, but we would be limited travel wise @JudyEv

@PatZAnthony We had such a good experience with the motor-home in Ireland, we looked into buying a boat on the Shannon River but in the end we decided against it.

I won't mind being on it for a day. but I would prefer something larger for a longer period.

I only spent two days in a sailboat and did not like at all. It was not terribly small, but I felt cramped and without privacy.

@LadyDuck The larger ones can be a little too bouncy for me at times too. It can be a wonderful adventure or a nightmare.

Some are really small and some are very large, but they all bounce around when out at sea @LadyDuck

I saw you post that on Facebook - I have only been on small sailboats when I was a kid. A boy (we were young) a few doors from our summer home was teaching me to sail but it didn't last long as my other didn't like me out on the water that long with a boy oh God forbid!!!

I've been to beautiful St. Augustine many times. My grandfather lived there. I've also enjoyed sailing, but never spent the night on one.

My husband and I hope to visit St. Augustine next spring, but I think we'll sleep on land. I don't think I would like living on a boat, even temporarily.

My last experience was on a catamaran. We spent the whole day on it and it was awesome trip. We did not really have any space problem. However I remember travelling to an Island called ''Ile aux Cerfs''. We travelled by a sailing boat over there. We did have space problem. We were about 10 in the boat. It was uncomfortable to sit all throughout the trip

Sailboats and houseboats feel similar when on the ocean @responsiveme The larger the boat, the easier it might be to hand rough waters.
