Diary Saturday 29th April 2017 I got my welfare payment through so I stocked in on shopping for a week or so, visited the library and took in a few pub signs as well as sampling ale in a few bars including the New Welcome Inn, actually a pub that was new in 1877. The sign depicts an artist creating the pub sign a a barmaid offers him a glass of foaming ale. It’s rare to see the sign-artist’s own craft presented on the signs. Diary Sunday 30th April 2017 A day in to catch up on my writings, laundry and pay a few vital bills online as the month draws to a close on the brink of the May Day bank holiday. Diary Monday 1st May 2017 Mayday and for many a bank holiday though for me an ordinary bill paying and shopping day. The weather got more pleasant as the day progressed though. I treated myself to two small microwave cheeseburgers with instruction to just put them in the microwave for a few minutes. Having tried similar ones before I saw no problem with this until after the microwave pinged. The cheese looked crinkled and congealed because it was sealed in plastic packaging even though inside the burger bun with the meat. I’d cooked the cheese slices right into the polythene. Surely they should have been separated from the rest of the meal or the box should have given instructions on them. Ah well, the burgers were OK once drowned in ketchup. Arthur Chappell
