Writing Long Posts - Good or Bad?

I used to write for Bubblews, before it disappeared from the face of the Earth. There posts had to have as little as 400 characters... That's a very low requirement and easy to achieve. Most of the time, whenever I wrote a post there, it always ended up being more than the required minimum because I love to write. Four hundred characters is just not enough for a writer who loves to write and is passionate about it... Sometimes, my posts were 400 words in length, if not even longer than that. If I had a lot to say on a topic, I put it out there... So, is writing long posts a good idea or a bad idea? It all depends on the topic covered... And it also depends on the readers. Some love reading long posts, while others prefer to read short ones. It's really a give and take. But in the eyes of Google, it is better to publish long posts rather than short ones because Google loves content! At the same time, having longer posts just for the sake of having longer posts is not a good idea. Lengthy content has to make sense and relate to what you are writing about... not just be there to fill empty space... Because Google loves content, sites that pay writers often impose a word (or character) minimum. On one hand, it's a great thing to have a minimum word count to insure that good content is posted, but that doesn't necessarily guarantee quality. Some writers, who don't have much or enough to say about a certain topic, will add stuff just to get to the minimum word count so they can publish that post, and as a result the post quality will suffer... and that's not something that we want. So, should sites have a minimum word count requirement for publishing posts there?

What if the very long ones are interesting? If something is interesting it doesn't matter to me how long it is... unless I am just super tired that day and can't read anything very long.

I used to write 400 words minimum because that was the basic requirement for content sites but that length doesn't fly at social sites such as this.

I thought the requirement was 350 words, but its been a while so I might have forgotten. I don't read long posts, the majority of people don't since it takes a lot of time. This is not a writing site so having a word minimum isn't really necessary. Sites like bubbs was where you can actually make some money need a min. I wriite for a friend's blog and her min. for me is 350.

I think it all depends on how you want to express yourself.
