Proverbs 13:20--He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

None of us are perfect. The question for me is this. How do you measure wisdom and foolishness amongst your friends and decide who is someone you should not be with? We can say that a man is not a drunkard, wh*remonger, a thief, etc. Yet, does that mean he is wise? Could he still be a fool? How can you tell you are walking with wise friends/people? Even the Christian realm is wide. What do you think?

Jesus said, you will know them by their fruit. Does what they say line up with what they do? That's the tell all. A person can say they're a Christian, but if they don't act like a Christian, living up to their words, then you know he/she is a fool.

That is true. Yet, sometimes people will do something nice. and you see them doing things that are really not good. When you see that mixture, then what?

@MsBooklover Solomon said that even a fool looks wise when he doesn't open his mouth. You need to look at the overall character of the person. Fools will always give themselves away by their words or actions, sometimes both.

Great question! How does one tell if a tree has good fruit? One cannot look at one fruit or two but has to look at all the fruit. If the large majority of the fruit are good and only a few are not good then it is a good tree. What do you think? Edited a few minutes later. Have you ever bought a basket of fruit and went home an found a few rotten ones? I have and so I check more carefully now. With friends, no one will be perfect, so we may have to exercise patience. If most of the time they are a good example then we will be forgiving when they make a mistake. What do you think?

@MsBooklover With time we can judge between good and bad fruit a lot easier. It is the same with whom we choose as friends.

That makes sense. With fruit, it is easier to decide. With people and their behavior, it is more complicated. If we think of people as fruit, some fruit is not rotten. Some fruit is just not tasty. It is middle of the road. You can eat it. It won't really hurt you, but it may give you a little stomach ache and not taste good going down. People can be like that, too.

We do learn many things through that our journey here. So sometimes meeting someone for the first timr can give you an impression about the person. However we can be wrong at times. Some people can be scrupulous and well one day or or the other we learn a our lesson then. I.prefer to.stick to people I have known for ages

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of the holy is understanding Proverbs 9.10 So the person who walks in LORD'S fear that is wise... By this I'm now choosing friends...
