I am still doing it since 1981.

This was my comment in one of my former student now colleague’s post on Face Book. She made a status post that “she is tired now and it is so difficult to earn money, and she was so sleepy already”. There were many comments agreeing with what she posted; some were my former students too, and her classmates. They are already complaining of the hardship of being a health care provider, with a meager income. So, I placed my comment. I posted, “you can do that. I am still doing that since 1981”, to which I gained a lot of thumb-up icon as a sign of approval. My colleagues (former students) are now feeling the difficult tasks of caring for the sick, and paperwork as well. That is why when I handle level 2 nursing students, I always ask them “who chose the course for them”, or if they are enthusiastic to care for the sick. Nursing, for some, is a way to go abroad and earn dollars. How many years are you working your profession now? Me, since 1981.

@ridingbet No, not at all, I am a management accountant and certified translator. I had my first job when I was 19 in a financial company, it is where I met my future husband.

@LadyDuck wow, an accountant. that is great. you are the second person who is an accountant, here in this site. one is @brokenbee who is temporarily in hibernation. nice to know too that you met your future husband in that workplace. love is truly in the air for both of you.

I'm retired but I worked in retail for many years. I retired early because of disability.

I have been doing slightly different types of jobs. I just started my new job in January. The problem in my country is that some jobs are on contractual basis.

@ridingbet in fact so far I have been in three jobs. The last two ones were on contract. The one i am in right now is a permanent job which i just started. So if i find a better opportunity I will try to move till i find my comfort zone. I really loved my previous job though

I'm retired after a successful and enjoyable teaching career. The computer work and paperwork did me in towards the end. Everything was a legal document and very time consuming.

I will also give a thumbs up with that answer. If you love your work, you will surely do it with your heart. But we also have to understand her, there come a time that even if you love your work, you look for something different, for instance bigger salary or wanted to be employ abroad, something different. Just looking for some break of the monotonous routine. But later you will return to what you love to do.

my friend, my salary as a part-time clinical preceptor is not much, but i enjoy doing it. some colleagues have the passion and compassion, but their main goal is financial stability, and this takes hard work to achieve that. i tell them to work in our country for a couple of years, to hone their skills, then they can work abroad, when they are already excellent in giving care to the patients and the sick.

@ridingbet yeah, I think they need to serve their country first where they earned their education and diploma before serving it to other people.

@ilocosboy it is also to improve their skills because other countries have better technology than us here.

That's right. even here too nursing is chosen by those who don't even deserve.... means they don't have serving hearts but because of salaries they're doing

Nursing is a different type of profession and I think many need to get out of it when it becomes boring to them and look for other things. With the changing world we live in, I feel the better ones are the ones who are willing to want to learn on what it will take to help others with all the new and upcoming Medical issues that want to present themselves. As for a job, I am happiest now with my own business that working for someone else. Just wish many times, the money was better though.

i agree. some nurses already are into the buy and sell business, call center agents, or other jobs so different from what they studied in school. well, it is the financial aspect that is their priority and i cannot blame them to shift gears.

Nursing is not for everyone. When I was in my 20's and I worked in a nursing home, I met several Philipino nurses. Most of them were on work Visa's. After completing their work Visa requirements, they would move on to higher paying jobs in hospitals and doctor's offices.
