My oldest child moved out when he was nineteen. He was fairly independent already and was somewhat responsible for his age. I think. :-)
He and some of his friends started going caving. They just loved it.
I think it's a fascinating and healthy activity, and a great way to enjoy nature.
Obviously, it has its risks though!
After my male child and his roommate returned from one of their first adventures, he came over to tell me all about it. He was sure to include how they had laid on their backs to carefully squeeze through a very tight space to explore another (remote) area of the cave. "I almost got stuck and we were worried about getting out!"
After I gasped and cringed a bit, I said something like "Please Son, in the future, just tell me that you had a great time and a few basics of where you went and what you did. Kindly leave out all the life-risking details."
What Mom doesn't know can't stress her out. Right?

This sounds so much like when I hear my younger son dropping bombshells

This is what a Mom expects from her children.Nothing more than that.
