Good afternoon.I was going down to memory lane. In our house hold we were nine children. Music was the theme. We did not have one of those portable crank case record player. We had a salesman drop by the house now and then. My sister ask the sales person about the record player. Yes,he said and do you have one to sell.At that time he did not. Can we afford it.He said dollar a week. That is not bad as my sister said that she will pay for it.As she was working. Fine.He brought the player and we had to go out and find some 78 record. This is a type of player we had to crank it up. Boy did we ever.We had a ball with this player. slowly build up a record library. We had the change the needle quite often. I cannot remember what was the first that we bought. I think it was the Andrew Sisters singing Boogie Bugle Boy we had a ball with this.As things quiet down and many of my family found work and we update the record player. But I never forget the first one. All those record that we bought.Wish I still had them. Anyone remember the crank case portable record player? The Andrew Sisters.
A clip from Buck Privates from my VHS Tapes file. I do not own the rights, but love the movie.

I remember hearing an interview with Jim Reeves where he talked about being five years old and encountering "a suitcase-looking concern with a crank on the side" record player and wondering "how they managed to get so many people inside that little suitcase" once it started playing music. I've seen them (I've seen the old cylinder players, too), but my first one was made in the 60s....like me.

We had a little record player when I was really young, but then when I was around 10 or 12 my parents bought one of those big wood hi-fi's. It had a radio and a tape deck in it. Memories.........

We didn't have a crank phonograph but we had hundreds of 78's. I can still remember some of the songs. I know we had a few of the Andrews Sisters albums. We found the boxes of albums when we were settling my mother's estate. I'm not sure what we're going to do with them.
