“The brain is the most complex thing we have yet discovered in our universe.” (Molecular biologist James Watson, co-discoverer of the physical structure of DNA) "A section of the brain the size of a match head contains about a billion connections that can combine in ways which can only be described as hyperastronomical—on the order of ten followed by millions of zeros.” (Neuroscientist Gerald Edelman) "Does it seem logical that although endowed with such potential, humans should live just a few decades? This sounds as unreasonable as using a powerful locomotive with a long train of freight cars to transport a grain of sand across a distance of just a few inches!" (g 12/07 p. 6 Is Death Really the End?) What is death? Why do we die?

If our brains were all that kept us alive then we'd probably live a lot longer. It's more what we do with our bodies throughout our whole life that allows us to live a longer life or not. I have an aunt that is turning 101 this year. I never heard that she only ate healthy food or was a vegan or anything like that, but I do know she was somewhat active being as she was the head of a bowling league until she was in her eighties and she gardened and didn't just sit around.

True, exercise is very important for a healthier and longer life. The abilities and capacities of the brain do demonstrate that we can actually live a long time. Of course the body also needs to be able to regenerate and repair itself. I remember reading a quotation from The Encyclopedia of the Brain and Brain Disorders stating that the long-term memory capacity of the human brain “is virtually unlimited.” Very interesting!

@MarshaMusselman The interesting time is that Christ could return soon. Is it possible?

@1hopefulman Of course. It can happen any day now. I don't know that it shall, but it could. It's in God's timetable and someone or many someone's will be alive when it happens otherwise the Bible wouldn't prepare us for that event. I'm hopeful to live longer than would be expected so I can go up alive, but of course, that remains to be seen.

We die to make room for younger generations, but also because our cells get damaged with age.

How many people do you think the earth can support?

@1hopefulman I have read several studies, our current level of knowledge does not allow us to predict how many people can support our earth. It is considered that a population of 11 billion could be a serious concern.

@LadyDuck True, a lot would depend on how the resources of the earth would be administrated.

I guess because our organs does not function similarly as to how it did when we were young and our cells degrade. Human beings were designed to be mortal

@Nawsheen Have you ever noticed that there a was another tree in the Garden of Eden? Genesis 2:9 American Standard Version (ASV) 9 And out of the ground made Jehovah God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

@1hopefulman if we look at it from a religious point of view Adam and Eve ate the forbidden and I believe that due to this the land was cursed and then whatever Adam was eating was from the cursed land was causing a slow down of cells regeneration. Maybe this can explain why we are designed to die

We should be able to live for thousands of years. I would go for that.

I have no problem with that as long as my body is also healthy and young and vigorous.

A topic I am not happy to discuss. That is reality and I leave it at that. However no matter what happens I believe in the world beyond and I also believe in reincarnation.
