Pot Calling the Kettle Black ...

Have you ever been down and out ... get in good shape ... then begin preaching to everyone 'if they stopped doing this or that' ... they'd be like you?
Are you a drug addict who takes hard drugs ... begins to preach to someone about taking 'other hard drugs' leaving out the drug you take?
Have you overcome so many obstacles ... then begin to preach to everyone what they should do ... never taking into mind what they are going through to get to where you are?
Have you forgotten what you come through ... to get to where you are? Begin preaching at 'how easy' it would be for others to change their lives ... you know ... 'just quit smoking ... just cut out their drugs ... just stop eating so much ... just ... just ... just'. You know ... just simply stop what you're doing ... it's so easy.
That is a crock ... I remember years ago I had a cousin going through so much ... he was on drugs, he was bi-polar ... he smoked, drank and all sorts of things. Every time he would share with me a problem ... I would be so positive to him like a little 'Miss Sunshine' ... thinking I was encouraging him and making it easy for him to see he could 'just simply quit doing this or doing that'.
One day he told me in the nicest way possible ... 'you are so self-righteous'. It hurt me to my Heart. But ... it made me look at myself and study myself. Thank God, I did.
I've never been on drugs, drank, that sort of stuff ... but, many years ago I smoked as a young girl. I've gained weight through time by not watching what I ate ... the things a lot of us do. I began to think who was I to advise anyone what to do with the serious problems in their life.
This is when I began to ... just simply ... listen. I realized I was 'the pot calling the kettle black'. I didn't want to be like that.

You are right. With age I have discovered that people who share with us their problems don“t want us to give them an easy recipe to stop having them. But all of them want a hug and us telling them that we love them. Period.

You are absolutely right about this. People just want to know someone is there to listen, pray for them and care about what they are going through. I try not to do that unless I am asked for advice specifically.

We all do that. Noone is prefect or hasnt done it to someone. Not a big deal.
