Sunscreen! With sunny days being more prevalent now days it's a good idea to be using sunscreen. Here are some facts and tips: It is said that one in five people in America will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. It is estimated that in 2017 about 161,790 in the U.S.. Men over 50 and Caucasians are more at risk of developing melanoma. Men 80 and older are more apt to get this cancer than are women of the same age. Before this age women are more apt to get it. If you experience five or more blistering type sunburns ages 15-20 your melanoma risk is 80 percent more prominent. On young lovely skin ultraviolet rays can ruin it and cause wrinkles and cancer later in life. Always put sunscreen on your child and yourself before even spending a very few minutes in the sun. Make it a fun occasion and don't forget to put it on the forehead, neck and ears, knees and scalp. It's a good idea to apply sunscreen 15 to 30 minutes before going outside. Even if children are swimming reapply it every 2 hours. Check on the label of water resistant types to see how often it is recommended to reapply. It's a good idea to use sunscreens that have zinc oxide or titanium dioxide in them for these are less irritating and do not get absorbed by the skin. Although approved by FDA sunscreen with oxybenzone and retinyl palmitate could cause harm to skin. Use sunscreen that is 30 SPF(Sun Protection Factor) or higher is best.
