Sweet Meetzee

And it took me almost a year. That sweet face you see in the photo is Meetzee, she is the middle sized kitty in my furmily, probably only about a half size larger than Boobear ..... when she's finally back to her normal size. I'd written a while back about how one of the intruders was constantly upchucking after they'd eat and because Max is the eldest at 16 years old or so I thought it was him. I was wrong, turns out Meetzee was gulping down her food as if she'd gone hungry for weeks, I suppose I can blame my stupid sibling for that. Well, now that I have them on wet food twice a day only there is no more upchucking. Plus, for a while Meetzee was also constipated which didn't help and now that too has been remedied. She's still gulping down the food she gets but now I am making sure she doesn't steal from Max. Hopefully soon she'll realize she won't go hungry again. What would you do if you had a kitty that gulped down food like that?

We have one pet that we feed in stages. Because he is a glutton, we give about 1/3 of what he will get in his bowl. After a minute, we hold some in our hand and feed slowing. Then the remaining portion is placed in the bowl again. This helps him, but can't say it would help every cat or dog.

I'm currently trying your suggestion so today I've fed small amounts of kibble an hour or so apart and plan to allow them to share a 5oz can of food tonight. I'm hoping by that time they won't be as hungry. Cleaning all that up is never fun but I will find out if it works then if so I will continue on the same path. I thought I'd mention that I have both moms kitties back on the Friskies mom always fed them, I think my biggest mistake was trying to change their brand of food. So far so good I hope.

@rebelann When cats get old they have a hard time chewing the dry food.

I think there is nothing to do to prevent Meetzee to gulp down food, but it's a good idea to be sure she does not steal the food from Max. May be little by little she realizes that she will find fresh food to eat every day and finally will relax.

Oh gosh. I don't know about kitties, but growing up my dog used to do gulp his food . . . but we think it's because he didn't want the littler dog to steal his food. The bigger dog hated the littler dog and was always in competition with him even though the littler one really didn't care.

I think Meetzee is still afraid she won't get enough to eat, yet if I give her as much as she wants she upchucks. Go figure.

Sounds like Meetzee @DianneN first she gulps down what I give her then she tries to steal what I gave Max.

Thank you, I think she is too but she's also a bit of a smarty pants, she'll attack a 65 lb dog if it gets too close to her or intrudes on her territory. She's pretty gutsy.

Maybe you can use a deterrent to prevent Meetzee from stealing the food. It can also be that she is hungry and maybe you should feed her at regular intervals. Cat get worms too at times. In this case taking her to the veterinarian will be the best option

You are correct about what you've said but she is fed twice a day. The problem is that she will eat until she's so full that she vomits and to keep her from doing that I gage the amount she gets. As for veterinarians I haven't the money at this time and the other problem is getting her into a carrier. She is an elderly cat and has only lived with me for 11 months. Hopefully I will be able to get take her before the end of this year.

My two male cats did that when I had four cats. Two males and two females. They were polite they would wait until the females were done until they would gulp theirs down to.

Cats are a funny bunch. This is the first time in a very long time that I've had more than one cat.

I have a dog who gobbles his food and doesn't chew. It's disturbing to see him eat so fast and I'm always afraid he's going to choke. I really have no idea how to stop a pet from gulping down their food

Yeah, I've had dogs do that before so I'd simply feed em only a small amount at a time. Thing is none of my cats from the past ever did that until this lil girl.
